TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Iran's moderate former president will not challenge President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the upcoming presidential election, the state-run Fars news agency said Monday. Mohammad Khatami said last month that he would run in June, ending weeks of speculation, the state-run IRNA news agency reported February 8. But he now says he will instead support moderate candidate Mir Hossein Moussavi, Fars reported Monday.

Are you sure that you can say and do politically anything you like in the US?
Try it first before you talk with certainty. This is how the criteria:
***It has to be something against the "system" (Similar to Iran where you get in trouble)***
You'll be surprise as how "many" of those who participate will be in the "red" list on the US security and police. One accident later, you are charged and disapear for a long time.
United States has more people in prison per population than anywhere in the world. Many of those are against some issues that the system finds it "threatening". It's a same idea.
Next time anyone wants to mock the Iranian election, better have one system that they can give as an example that provides a true alternatives to the people, then make a case why they don't want THAT system in the US. Let's talk for real here.
To mccainobama

Freedom in the U.S is not all about drinking/looking at porn/dressing provocatively as you put it, you foolish creature, but above all having the right to decide for yourself what to watch, what to eat, what to read, what to wear, who to be with and/or where to go without fear of persecution or imprisonment as long as what you do does not endanger the wellbeing/safety of others or violate their rights.
Moussavi will be more obedient to Khamaneii than Ahmadi
by My two cents (not verified) on Tue Mar 17, 2009 05:54 AM PDTI believe Moussavi will be more obedient than Ahmadi if he's selected as president.
But will the Revolutionary Guards who now gor a lot of political clout accept Moussavi and dump Ahmaidnejad? maybe if they realize that the survival of the whole IRI establisment depends on Moussavi being selected as president.
Who are they kidding; The election is laugh as long as
by Kurdish Warrior (not verified) on Mon Mar 16, 2009 11:04 PM PDTConstitution is run by Velayet faghih, includes Shia ideology and represent Mullah theocracy. Reform doesn't exist within the pillars of this regime. Who are they kidding with their stupid games????
good,no crying Ayatollah
by Anonymous iranian 1 (not verified) on Mon Mar 16, 2009 09:47 PM PDTWhatever Ahmadinejad is I take him cver any kind of robe wearing Mullah.Khatami and Ahmadinejad both are leader's toys.Depending on the world situation and Khamanei wishes they are being voted for or told not to run.It looks like either Iran made a gesture toward US and it was rejected or from early Obama behaviour Iran found out how he is going to behave during his presidency. It looks like Iran is not ready for any compromise if Ahmadinejad is re elected, but things could change.
Islamic joke or islamic trick?
by Esfandiar (not verified) on Mon Mar 16, 2009 09:05 PM PDTHe is a great man. He is a true Iranian. We are fortunate to have Khatami
What did he, khatami, do for iran in the 8 years that he was in charge?
Hamaan aash va hamaan kaaseh.
And who is "We" who are fortunate to have the idiot smiley traitor? Islamists or iranians?
Yeah he did a lot of good for islam by keeping Persians at bay and backwards.
For iran, he only helped the oppression to sustain and the most criminal regime of iranian history to persist, nothing more. And don't forget the chain killings and suppression of student uprising during his tenure.
K.N. is right: same dog, different fleas, with a stupid manipulative smile on his face.
i would say the same about obama/mccain
by mccainobama (not verified) on Mon Mar 16, 2009 12:27 PM PDTthey are made up of the same cloth.
as ralph nader used to say:
"the difference between democrats and republicans is the velocity their knees fall to the ground when corporations/lobbyists knock on their doors"
yet you shahee/reactionaries want to overthrow the government there while enjoy the same crap system here (they have fooled you by allowing you to drink/look at porn/ dress provokatively therefore your nafs enjoys it and you accept it)
So, being self-less
by Anonymer (not verified) on Mon Mar 16, 2009 12:23 PM PDTSo, being self-less qualifies you to be a great president in Iran?
Does everyone in Iran look for a handout from the government; do Iranian poor see the government as a giant welfare program? Don't they want their gov't to creat jobs and improve their lives through accomplishment and work? Don't they want their gov't to provide them with the best opportunities for prosperty and economic security as opposed to being at the mercy of government handouts?
Does it really make any difference?
by BK (not verified) on Mon Mar 16, 2009 11:26 AM PDTDoes it?
They are all cut from the cloth. Are they not.
He is selfless

This just shows that
by Anoni (not verified) on Mon Mar 16, 2009 09:59 AM PDTThis just shows that Ahmadinejad is selected again by the Supreme Leader to win.
It Makes No Difference Whatsoever
by Kaveh Nouraee on Mon Mar 16, 2009 09:51 AM PDTKhatami is in, Khatami is out. Ahmadinejad wins, Ahmadinejad loses. Same dog, different fleas.
No matter who "wins", 70 million people have already lost.
actually...
by IRANdokht on Mon Mar 16, 2009 09:28 AM PDTThat's not bad news for the reformists. There was an article about danger of splitting the moderate votes and handing the presidency back to Ahmadi Nejad that I had posted before:
