Two weeks ago an Eritrean opposition site published a rumor about cooperation between Iran and Eritrea to revamp an old refinery in Assab, Eritrea. That rumor developed into a story on U.S. blogs, news sites and Israeli TV about imminent deployment of Iranian ballistic missiles, troops, submarines, helicopters and UAVs to the city of Assab to control the Red Sea.

by Jaleho on Thu Mar 26, 2009 02:30 PM PDTIn the case of lies that took America to invade Iraq, the pulitzer winning journalists of NYTimes made up whatever they wanted, people like Daniel Schorr of NPR defended his other Jewish cabal in the media like Judith Miller for her right to keep her "sources" hidden, and they made up non-existant sources and lies attributed to them all they wanted. AFTER they sold the wrong war to the Americans, Thomas Friedman boasted that without some journalist all few miles from him there wouldn't have been a war!!
It is funny to remember how many times the lies of Judith Miller and Gordon was shown to public and they still continued with them. Gordon still is making similar lies that he made regarding Iraq about Iran! I mean, the guy doesn't even have enough imagination to make up new lies :-)
Remember this one?

Thanks for the great article, and Taheri is still at it too, no?
The Western press prefers things simple, i.e. Iran always bad.
by Bedros on Thu Mar 26, 2009 09:58 AM PDTYes. And a related point is the continual demonisation of Iran by Western governments and the Western press but only so far as it suits the propaganda purposes of the W. Bushes, the Tony Blairs, the Rupert Murdochs and the Rush Limbaughs of the world.
Iran is regularly portrayed as a nation of sociopaths and evil, mad scientists who are hard at work fulfilling their dream of taking over the planet. Iranian technicians are secretly developing an arsenal of nuclear warheads and other sophisticated weapons systems with which Iran will eventually conquer the United States, Europe then the rest of the world -- so they say. Yet when Iranian engineers do perform a notable scientific achievement such as launching a functioning satellite into space the Western press scoffs and ridicules the sophistication of Iranian science: Ha ha, the Iranian satellite and the launch vehicle are technology the USA had in the '50s they say out of the other side of their mouths.
So which is it? The Western governments and press, especially in the USA cannot keep their story straight and consistent.
Are the Persians mad geniuses and megalomaniacs who are a threat to the world as we know it? Or, are they marginally capable technicians and engineers who are fifty years behind the times?
