Two Yemeni nationals have been sentenced to death by a court in Yemeni capital 'San'aa for spying on behalf of Iran by providing Iranian intelligence with secret information on the political, economic and security situation in the country, NewsYemen.com reported.
A third suspect was acquitted for lack of evidence.
The conviction of the two men comes only a short time after a Yemeni national was sentenced to death for contacting Israel’s overseas intelligence agency, the Mossad, and offering his services. In February 2008, a former Yemeni military officer and a Saudi of Yemeni origin were convicted for spying for Egypt.
Yemeni authorities have lately increased their efforts to combat terrorism in the country, and on Monday issued a list of 154 names of the most wanted Al-Qa’ida terrorists in the country.
The updated list includes photographs and a brief description of the wanted people and is being distributed to security agencies throughout the country, as well as security personnel at airports, seaports, land crossings, civil administration offices and passport controls. The Interior Ministry is urging the public to cooperate with the security forces in pursuing terrorists and notifying the police about the whereabouts of terror suspects.
