Former Iranian Minister of Labor Dariush Forouhar and his wife, who were stabbed to death in the same year, were also named as the group's targets in neighboring Iran. Both of the killings, the letter adds were due to the "target's" alleged connections to the leader of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) Abdullah Ocalan. This is while, in both cases, individuals within both countries have confessed to the killings.

Thank you Mehrnaz. I believe (and please correct me if I'm wrong
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Tue Apr 14, 2009 07:00 AM PDTthat the Kurds are the descendants of the Medes, and so in a sense it could even be said that all Iranians are Kurds instead of all Kurds are Iranians. LOL? And I also know that people who are into the Iran Bozorg thing (which i guess could be called Pan-Iranism) like the SUNKA, pretty much lump everyone in Asia who was ever even momentarily associated with historical Persia and speaks an Indo-Iranian language into Iran. So Pashtos, Urdus, etc., yes. Turks, Khuzestani Arabs no. What I'm most curious about is how widespread (outside of the fanatics like the SUNKA who actually believe in the re-remergence of this mythological Iran Bozorg) believe like Anon74747, that all Kurds are Iranian, today, in 2009. i mean, how many people would actually say, "All Kurds are Iranian"? And would that be a geopolitical or historical statement?
I can't possibly imagine that most Kurds would agree, including a few Iranian Kurds.
In any case, the point you brought up about Palestine is something I also thought about. I think we all need to respect all the borders of modern nations as defined by what the nation as a member of the United Nations consists of, however with regions that have strong separatist movements being allowed to have referenda to decide if they can break with those nations. That would include the Tamils, the Darfurians, etc., and a lot of problems would be solved. The case of Israel/Palestine is far more complex (although not, like many here would like to claim, more terrible or important..it's just that no one gives a sh-t) but as far as I'm concerned, as long as Israel were no longer a Jewish state and the right of return were granted, that would solve that problem too. After a while, anyway, and if pigs could fly.
So...rather than set off some endless "debate" about Is/Pal (always a possibility, although it wouldn't happen about Darfur or Sri Lanka in a million years), I'm really wondering about my question in bold
A7474, thank you for the response
by Mehrban on Tue Apr 14, 2009 05:45 AM PDTbut Forouhars were assassinated in Nov 1998 and Ocalan was captured in Feb 1999. Forouhar could not have protested the capture of Ocalan.
Contact with Ocalan (on the run) is possible, Ocalan was tapping many sources to find refuge. With Forouhar politically sidelined in Iran what kind of help could he give to the Kurds that would be threatening enough (for the Turks) to assassinate him?
Kurds outside Iran
by MEHRNAZ SHAHABI on Tue Apr 14, 2009 12:52 AM PDTKurdistan has historically been part of the larger Iran. However to say Kurds in Turkey or Iraq are Iranians is like saying that southern ex-Soviet republics are also Iranian! There is just so much you can go back in reclaiming! Although that has been deemed a legitimate claim by respected international bodies and western democracies when it comes to Israelites claiming territory from 3000 years ago!
Kurds outside of Iran are Iranian?? Anon74747, is this a
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Mon Apr 13, 2009 06:36 PM PDTcommon belief among Iranians or is this just a perspective of yours? I thought Kurds are Kurds and that's why they speak Kurdish and wherever they holdpassports is their nationality. So how are Turkish Kurds Iranians? In what Iran? Iran Bozorg? And isn't that an ultra-Nationalist belief too, like pan-Turkism? i mean obviously I completely defer to your knowledge of facts, it's just that as a non-Iranian this statement, which I've never heard before, really surprised me.
Good question Mehraban
by Anonymous7474 (not verified) on Mon Apr 13, 2009 01:45 PM PDTIt is because Dariush Foruhar was protesting the capture of Ocalan. Foruhar believed Kurds outside of Iran are also Iranians and so he wanted to help them out. Of course Kurds are Iranians. So this did not go well with pan-Turkist Ultra-nationalist group.
Why?
by Mehrban on Mon Apr 13, 2009 12:48 PM PDTI wonder why an ultra nationalist Turkish group would use its resources to take out an Iranian dissident?
For alleged conversations with Ocalan??!!!!

by Darius Kadivar on Sun Apr 12, 2009 02:58 PM PDTI suppose the Next grand revelation by the official IRI TV is that those responsible for the massacres of 1988 were Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck !
By the way Ostaad, send my Regards to Anis Nacchache, apparently he is now a respectful businessman residing between Tehran and Lebenon.
Funny how destiny is just with the less meritant individuals on this planet and cruel with true Heros.
Naccache who was responsible for the death of a french Policeman and an innocent French women in the neighbourhood of Mr. Shapour Bakhtiar was freed in exchange to the liberation of the French Hostages in Lebenon during the proxy war of Iran with the French government through its allies in Lebanon in the mid 80's.
As for the Assassins of Dr. Bakhtiar, they are still living happily ever after in Iran under the IRI's protection.
I'm sure your friends will appreciate
