The head of Iran's judiciary Monday ordered a "careful and speedy appeal process" for an Iranian-American journalist who was convicted of spying, Iran's state-run news agency reported.
Journalist Roxana Saberi, shown working in Iran in 2004, is accused of spying in the country. Roxana Saberi, 31, was sentenced Saturday to eight years in prison after a one-day trial that was closed to the public. The decision prompted sharp denunciations from President Obama, as well as other U.S. and international officials. Saberi's lawyer has said he would appeal Saturday's verdict. Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Hashemi Shahroudi's order calls on the head of Tehran's Justice Department, Alireza Avayee, to make sure the appeals process is quick and fair.

Fishie
by capt_ayhab on Tue Apr 21, 2009 08:37 AM PDTFor some reason you have stopped knowing me and challenging basically everything I say. Why?
I have asked you this question before and you have not answered me.
Yes if he would have compared US to a huge animal park I would have objected as I did. If you chose to not to accept this answer from me then you have developed certain issues with me which does not sit well with me.
I am too tried and too old to keep explaining myself. If you find my news threads and my comments in any way derogatory and offensive then perhaps you need to re read my threads and my comments. But not as what you have become , rather as the Fishie That I used to know. Unbiased and objective.
Sorry for being blunt.

by anonymous fish on Mon Apr 20, 2009 03:01 PM PDTwhat if hamvatan said "the US is no longer a country... just a .... blah blah blah".
would you consider him anti-american? would you consider my angry reaction to his comment as OVER-reacting? or would you just say he's saying how he feels and that he has a right to do so? do i get to blast everyone who says something bad about america? do i get to call you anti-american when you criticize america? are you demonizing america and americans when you criticize them?

by capt_ayhab on Mon Apr 20, 2009 01:48 PM PDTIt is so condescending the way you talk about Iranians [Iran is longer a country, Just a Giant Wild animal Park.]
What do people of Iran have to do with extremist regime in power now? Or you are just the kind to take advantage of the situation and and feed your own personal agenda of demonizing Iranians?
It is utter shame how you talk about Iranians, that is if you have any nationalistic bone in your body.

What about Others?
by 1 Hamvatan (not verified) on Mon Apr 20, 2009 12:23 PM PDTThis is just weird. They want to do what exactly?? Didn't they read the verdict already? First they Condemn then they have the trial?
What about all those who are in jails for months, years with out any defense and have no means to reach any lawyer, and most lawyers do stay away in fear of being jailed themselves after performing their duties as defending lawyers. Iran is now laughing stock of the world.
Iran is longer a country, Just a Giant Wild animal Park.
i hope justice is finally served.
