What she is talking about, is Khomeini and his name up until 1977-78 . Khomeini's 1963 uprising failed to attract much attention or support, nationally. He was quickly arrested and sent to exile. Outside Qom and religeous circles, not very many people had even heard from him.

MEHRNAZ SHAHABI

Oh, this is very funny ... LOL :)

I don't have time to watch the interview but I found these such good clinical examples of delusions of grandeour:

“We compared ourselves with the most advanced countries in the world.  Maybe, it was a mistake. But, we Iranians are like that.  We cannot do anything about it.”

And the delusions of an ardent supporter treated here:

"DK, why are you using the title" empress", are you under the impression/illusion the Shah fled an Empire?!!!"   Ha ha ha

Ms. Farah Diba is a decent lady and it's a pity that...

by Ostaad on

she is not allowed in Iran to live and continue working on the social and civic projects that she was involved with. In my opinion she "talaf shod" by that incompetent excuse for a monarch, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who would jump on an airplane and leave whenever someone said "pekh" to him hoping someone would bring him back. Ms. Diba even alluded to this point by saying they told their supported they would "come back"!

She also convinced me she had no clue by saying some people had not heard of Khomeini, or had forgotten about him!!! I wonder who she was talking about.

DK, why are you using the title" empress", are you under the impression/illusion the Shah fled an Empire?!!!

Taking responsibilities to make decisions?

by Amir Kashani (not verified) on

She said some in higher up did not make decision therefore shah had to make the decision for them.
According to Mr. Alam's Memoir, Shah never trusted nor allowed anyone to make such decisions as she claimed in the interview.

To Disgusted by IRI

I do not deny that Iran advanced during the era of Shah and the country was on the right path for social and economic progress.  We had a functioning regime that could deliver 22% rise in GDP for a good number of years.  I meant to point out that exaggeration in our power and reach is engrained in our Iranian psyche.

I agree with you that IRI sympathizers, lovers and admirers on this web site bark Iran is a prosperous country and a regional might when comparing Iran with backward Islamic nations you mentioned.  We must bear in mind that their position is a natural and logical one because the regime cannot deliver anything beyond big talks and false claims. However, the law of nature dictates that when regimes inflate themselves, then there is a chance of implosion as it happened in 79.  The moment of implosion is near, my friend, and nothing can stop it.

You said "The best part of the interview is when she says We compared ourselves with the most advanced countries. Maybe it was mistake. But, we Iranians are like that. We cannot do anything about it.”

Yeah but now a lot of IRI symapthizers, lovers and admirers on this web site alone are tearing themsleves apart trying to shove this idea into everybody's head 24/7 that we should always compare Iran to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh (not Turkey) and be grateful to God and happy that we've got the IRI.

Interesting

by Mort Gilani on

She obviously wants to defend the legacy of her husband.  But, I find her more revealing than ever in this interview.  The best part of the interview is when she says
“We compared ourselves with the most advanced countries in the world.  Maybe, it was a mistake. But, we Iranians are like that.  We cannot do anything about it.”

Mehdi Mazloom

facinating revelation

by Mehdi Mazloom on

The most revealing information I got from her interview, as she content that, Once the news about his terminal cancer was known to the akhooda who were listing to Khomeini in Paris, that pretty much sealed his fate. This news just accelerated the Islamic revolution.

Also, her comments about "not being in the loop" about the fate of Mossadegh, somewhat sound disingenuous. (But I may be wrong) .

I am also not sure about her comment that, the late Shah was planning to transforming Iran into a democracy. Only he needed more time to accomplish his goal. The guy was too megalomaniac and egocentric to give up his absolute rule, and become a figure head like the "girl" in GB.

Anyway, very interesting interview.
