Turkey will not allow Israel to use it's airspace to attack Iran
by Dan Huck on Sun May 17, 2009 09:07 PM PDTSimilarly false perceptions have also obviously been promulgated regarding the Israeli-Iran standoff. One of the most transparent examples of this duplicity was brought to a head for me by an article in the Turkish English language newspaper "The Daily Zaman" on April 29th. "Ankara won’t allow Israel to use Turkish airspace in attacking Iran" viewable at
www.todayszaman.com/tz-web/detaylar.do?load=detay&...
The article candidly outlines the possibilities and real threat of an Israeli raid on Iran; Turkey's response before the fact, and information regarding Israel's probable misuse of Turkish airspace in their bombing of Syrian territory. Of course their was nothing to indicate Turkey was worried in the least about an Iranian attack! My comment was:
"Will Ankhara allow Iran to use Turkish airspace to attack Israeli nuclear sites? You seem to turn the world upside down. You offer an interesting perspective for those like myself who primarily get our news from American media. We hear the Iranians are the fearsome ones who we cannot take our eyes off of for a moment lest they launch a devastating attack on Israel, wiping it off the face of the earth forever. We are told they have no right to be moving ahead with efforts to have nuclear power, as are dozens of other countries in the world, because they are an 'existential threat' to the state of Israel. We are led to believe although Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty they are international pariah for having the nerve to move ahead with the rights to develop nuclear power under the terms of that treaty. Of course, many of us wonder what makes Israel more equal than a signatory to the treaty, even though they are not signatories. We understand Israel has more than 200 nuclear warheads and the missiles to deliver them. My main question, however, is why does your article not give credence to the terrible military threat which the Iranians pose to the Israelis, and what about the devastating and massive air attack the Iranians are obviously more than capable of launching against Israel, and why are your analysts totally ignoring this? Are you indirectly telling us the US Congress and our media are lying to us? That the Iranian military is not in the same league, barely the same universe, with that of the Israelis?
