Iran's Supreme leader said on Thursday the Islamic Republic's "honor" in the world should not be questioned, in an apparent criticism of reformers challenging President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in this month's election. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei spoke a day after a leading moderate rival accused the conservative president of humiliating the nation by adopting "extremist" foreign policies. Former Prime Minister Mirhossein Mousavi made the allegation in a heated televised debate which underlined clear policy and personality differences between the two candidates widely viewed as front-runners in the June 12 presidential election.

Who cares?

It might very well be Rezaii at the end, magically popping out of the ballot box and presented as winner to people by the IRI.

I am confident that we are going to have four more years of the same ol' same ol' ....

reuters, guardian... right? wrong? opposite?

by hamsade ghadimi on

i like to ask the two gentleman who said reuters got it all wrong about what khamenei said and that guardian said the opposite!

here are the direct quotes of khatami in the reuter piece, above:

1."The honor of our nation today is reflected in the world,"

2."I do not accept the sayings of those who imagine that our nation has become belittled in the world because of its commitment to its principles ... this path will continue until final victory,"3."I do not have any problems with debates and criticism but try to do it in the right framework of sharia and religion,"

here are the direct quotes from guardian:

1. "One doesn't like to see a nominee, for the sake of proving himself, seeking to negate somebody else,"

2."I have no problem with debate, dialogue and criticism but these debates must take place within a religious framework."3."I do not accept the sayings of those who imagine that our nation has become belittled in the world because of its commitment to its principles," …"this path will continue until final victory".

4. "This is a sin. We are Muslims, we believe in God. We cannot name people like that and accuse them."

what was wrong and what was the opposite?  the guardian elaborates more and states that khamenei was chiding both candidates for their accusatory tone.

The Guardian published just the opposite

REUTERS is wrong

REUTERS got Khamenei's speech totally wrong. That's not correct. I watched the entire speech and did not hear it the way the report indicates.
That's putting words in people's mouth.

If nobody else, Khamenei knows it very well

by Mansour F. (not verified) on

Israelis are DEAD set against Ahmadinejad! America and Europe (specially EU) are also against any relationship with Ahmadinejad and want him OUT!

Mullah Khameneii knows very very well that the survival and longevity of the entire IRI regime depends to a great extent on an ultimate compromise of the IRI with Obama's U.S. Administration so in conclusion, Ahmadinejad will be a GONER!!
