Many people will breathe a sigh of relief should Mir-Hossein Mousavi be elected as Iran’s president. The question is whether a Mousavi victory and Ahmadinejad defeat will indeed serve Israel’s strategic interests, and the answer is probably ‘no.’ The election victory of reformist candidate Muhammad Khatami in 1997 and again in 2001 took Iran out of isolation, opened doors that were previously closed, and in fact extended the life of the Islamic regime. In the face of Khatami’s smiles and promising slogans in respect to civil society, the rule of law, and intercultural dialogue, Israel’s warnings that we were dealing with more of the same appeared delusional. By winning the elections, and throughout his presidential term, Khatami managed to a large extent to neutralize the explosive domestic element and blur external criticism.

by Mehdi Mazloom on Sun Jun 14, 2009 05:32 PM PDTAziz, did you saw the circus the regime staged?
watching these rughead clowns play in circus is what this despotic regime does best.
Fortunately, one of their own most powerful clerics (and and Billionaire one) had turned against them.
Lets hope that these riots will transform into counter revoution to throw the bums out of power and bring a secular government in Iran. A government which the poor and oppressed Iranian need and deseve.
Mehdi jaan, funny
by Farhad Kashani on Sat Jun 13, 2009 02:32 PM PDTMehdi jaan, funny stuff, and also right on the money!
These people are something else, aren’t they? When the majority of Iranians are rising up against this regime, they regurgitate regime’s desperate propaganda! Propaganda that the regime itself doesn’t believe in!
Aziz, did you saw the circus the regime staged?
farhad - capt's obsession withh Israel.
by Mehdi Mazloom on Fri Jun 12, 2009 06:16 PM PDTThe reasons which could explain his obsessed with Israel.
1. An Israeli woman had turned him down for a date. (you are not cute enough for me), which hurt his macho ego. Here is a likely evidence.
Capt even calls himself "David", calling "Ashely"
(Be sure to watch it. You will fall on the floor laughing).
2. He is Jealous of the Israelis being successful and prosperous.
3. He watches too many cartoons on Iranian channels.
4. He is an idiot, and can't help himself.
Akhmaghe'Nejad is bad for everyone concerned
by Mehdi Mazloom on Fri Jun 12, 2009 06:02 PM PDTBasse' digge'. this idiot had brought shame, and retardation to Iran's name in the international arena. It is not as much WHAT he was saying, rather the WAY he was expressing himself. Like a backward and primitive peasant. This man is an embarrassment to any Iranian with shred of self respect. Not only this midget should go, he should take the whole package of semi-illiterate and corrupt mullahs with him.
Iranian should have a new referendum on this pack of wolves, It is time to restore Iran to an open, and secular democracy with transparent government, in which itself abides to rule of law - instead of a single old man with a 7th century mind set to be the law of the land as he sees fit.
If elected,
Mossawi seem to be more civilized, he refrained from denying the Holocaust.
Israel couldn't care less who is elected, as long as he does not continue to pose a threat to Israel's existance. Like the saying goes Sagge' zard, ba-radare' shogale'. As long as they believe in some illusive Mehdi to return, as long as Mossawi will continue with the subversive policies of his predicessor, there won't be much change in the region.
capt ayhab, don't you
by Farhad Kashani on Fri Jun 12, 2009 05:55 PM PDTcapt ayhab,
don't you think your obsession with Israel has become dangerous for your health! Even in the mixdt of all this news about IRI's "selection", which they wanna fool the wold to think its an "election", you're still obsessed with somehow connecting anything about Iran to Israel! Thats pathetic dude!
Also, Israel, and the world, knows very well that no matter who gets selected by the regime, nothing will change. They know what IRIs policy of fundamentalism and terrorism is, so they couldn;t care less, as well as the majority of the Iranian people. You think everyone is brainwashed and dillusional like you and your other pro IRI Fascism buddies?
Too naive to believe that Obama will let Iran have the bomb!!!
by My bet (not verified) on Fri Jun 12, 2009 12:54 PM PDTI doubt it very much!
Even if Obama lets Iran have the bomb due to a "reformist" president, Israel will never ever feel safe to settle for it and just take it, besides the whole area will go nuclear and that's not good for the West's long term interests in the ME!!
They are saying all these on purpose
by Abarmard on Fri Jun 12, 2009 12:18 PM PDTI would normally think that anything said in these kind of areas, reverse it. If they said that they support Mousavi, it certainly won't be good publicity for him.
Captain, honestly anything Iran does is...
by Ostaad on Fri Jun 12, 2009 12:08 PM PDTagainst Israel's "strategic interests", since those interests are continuation of the Apartheid regime, land grab and building more illegal settlement for the Zionist terrorists. Add to the mix a rabid desire for military, and if possible, economic domination of the ME then it becomes very clear why the Zionistas are getting such a bad case of "cheez dard".
BTW, don't you think the author is a Iranian Jew, he sure looks it?
