Jebhe Melli Iran

Mr. Gilani

by Kaveh Nouraee on

Again, allow me to clarify.

I'm hardly indifferent to the situation. My indifference is to this "election" itself, as this never was a real electoral process to begin with. Regardless of who "won" the IR itself will never change.

I fully support the people in the street who are protesting. They got a small taste of what "could be", even if it was only for a short time and even if in reality it was never going to happen, even if Moussavi "won".

A sense of empowerment has washed over the people that Khamenei and Ahmadinejad are trying to crush. I hope that the people won't back down.

Kaveh and Massoud, Thanks

by Mort Gilani on

Kaveh and Massoud,

Thanks for pointing out the reference.

Kaveh,

Sorry for butting in.  It is a bit disappointing to read your indifferent reaction toward current situation. We in opposition used to get excited when we saw 20 students shouting “Death to Dictator” in a dorm or university, but we should not be happy when millions are showing the same sentiment and shouting the same slogan in the street?

My 2 rials:

There is nothing to lose from supporting this movement. If the regime factions resolve their differences, that would only come with some sort of back peddling by the black-robed bozo, Khamenei, and his monkey, Ahmadinejad.  That would be a marginal gain for the people in Iran without extending the life of Islamic Republic.  Or, both factions get gridlocked up to the point of IR’s collapse.  Am I the only one who thinks the Islamic Republic is running out of time in addressing the unemployment and inflation issues?

sad reality

by Anonymous iraniam (not verified) on

Sad reality is that Mousavi is a regime insider, that believs in revolution and velayate faghih. Even if he succeeds in becoming President, more likely than not he will not be capable of making any significant change to people's lives, besides minor relaxation of dress code, etc. This is really a fight between different factions of the regime, but not about future of iran.

I'm here, and (in a way) I'm lucky to have read this bit of news, otherwise I wouldn't have seen your grace-while-I'm-not-here message.

Obviously, concerning the Jebhe Melli message, you Irandokht and Ostaad haven't heard about democracy! That's one.

Then yes, I did advocate not voting. Look at what happened to the people who did! They got cheated! And for all the "peaceful evolution" that they were preaching, they now have to go out in the street and FIGHT for their right. Just like me and people like me were saying!

Guess what now - I'm supporting those people who got cheated, even though I had that stance AND even though they might not be just fighting for democracy! What are you doing?

Kaveh Nouraee

Mr. Kazemzadeh

by Kaveh Nouraee on

A very valuable 2 rials, if I may say. I maintain my original position that voting in in this sham election would only serve to prop up the IR one way or another. And now we see the results. And there's nothing funny about it.

And yes, Mr. Gilani, as Mr. Kazemzadeh said, I am indeed referring to the people Darius Kadivar refers to, and not JM. I apologize if I contributed to any confusion.

INF-Abroad on the Coup

by Masoud Kazemzadeh on

Ostaad jaan,

First and foremost, you do not know whether or not our members and supporters have been involved in the protests. Second, there are some people who listen to us and there are some people who not listen to us. For those who listen to us, our organization asked them to help the protest against the hard-liners. I do not know whether you wish to see people resist or not. You do not listen to JM; therefore, do not worry about us and those who listen to us.

================

Iran Dokhat jaan,

No, I did not think this sounds funny.

JM is against dictatorship. Period, no buts of ifs. For 60 years it has done to the best of its abilities to promote freedom, democracy, and human rights. This means that it OPPOSES any and all dictatorial and oppressive policies and actions.

Had we succeeded, then Iran would have been a democracy. In fact, since 1953, in the pat 56 years, our country has been ruled by dictatorships. Part of this is our fault, and part of it the fault of other groups, and part is the fault of our scholars and intellectuals, and part the fault of the Iranian people. The fact that Iran is ruled by a brutal fascist regime is a sign of the failure of so many groups.

JM’s goal is the replacement of the fundamentalist terrorist regime with democracy. Mousavi and Ahmadinejad are BOTH dictators, brutal, reactionary, like Khomeini and Khamenei. We did not think a week ago, nor do we think today that Mousavi as president would make Iran a democracy. Replacing one dictator with another dictator is not the solution. The solution is replacing the dictatorship with democracy.

One wing of the ruling oligarchy is breaking its own norms and is trying to replace the current brutal oligarchic dictatorship with a factional brutal dictatorship. This coup by one faction (Khamenei-Ahmadinejad) against two other factions (Rafsanjani-Mousavi-reformists) may or may not succeed.

A Mousavi presidency would have undermined the personal power and preference of Khamenei, but it would have increased the legitimacy of the entire nezam velayat faghih. This coup benefits the hard-line gang but it is not in the interests of the nezam. The failure of the coup would be bad both for Khamenei and the entire nezam. If the coup succeeded, the result would be mixed depending on what other actors do.

Therefore:

(1) if one wants to help the nezam velyat faghih continue its brutal dictatorial regime be prolonged, then the best policies would have been to vote for Mousavi, and have him become president. Ahmadinejad-Khamenei did something that is in THEIR OWN interests although it is not in the interest of the entire nezam. A Mousavi presidency would have reduced the power of Khamenei but increased the legitimacy of the nezam velayat faghih and prolonged its dictatorship.

(2) if one wants to undermine the rule of the nezam velayat faghih, then the best policy would have been to boycott the election. And when there is coup, to call upon the people to resist it because the failure of the coup is against the nezam.

This coup may succeed or it may fail. It is in the personal safety of JM members to stay out of this struggle. But our brave people inside have risked their own lives to stand up to the coup.

It is sad that you think this is funny.

MK

 =======================

MM,

We opposed participation in the pseudo-election. We oppose the coup. We oppose what is good for the nezam velayat faghih. We support what undermines the regime and helps the people to have freedom, democracy, and human rights.

MK

 Mazdak,

Different people participated in the pseudo-election for different reasons. Different people are resisting the coup for different reasons.

MK

 ==================

Dariush jaan,

Thanks.

Masoud

======================

 Kaveh jaan,

There are different people who participated in the election for different reasons.

1. Some participated because they want to preserve and prolong the incumbent tyranny. They are in essence no different than Ahmadinejad. For them Mousavi presented a better mask to hide the ugly reactionary oppressive fascisitic nature of the vf system. Rafsanjani best represents this group.

2. Some participated because they genuinely hated Ahmadinejad and believed that although Mousavi and Karrubi are bad and tyrants, they are less bad and less tyrannical than Ahmadinejad. These are decent people. This group is by and large those in the streets fighting and resisting the coup.

3. Some participate because they REALLY believe that Mousavi or Karrubi are democrats. They are naive.

4. Some participate because they are believers in fundamentalism lite. That is they are against freedom and democracy and human rights for the Iranian people. They also do not like the hard-line policies. They simply want a less extremist fascistic dictatorship. Mousavi and Karrubi themselves and their closest advisors are in this category.

Our job is to provide information and analysis so that it would help group 3 with their illusion. No amount of information would change the minds of groups 1, 2, and 3, because they know all the information and their decision was no based on lack of knowledge.

In the long term, groups 2 and 3 are OUR allies. Group 3 only needs time, experience, and information. Group 2 will join us when we are the actual alternative to the nezam. In their perspective, the real choice is between bad and worse. So they choose bad. In their view, the democratic opposition is good, but does not exist in reality right now. Once it becomes a real choice then they will jump on our side.

My 2 rial,

Masoud

Dear Mr. Gilani,

Kaveh is NOT referring to JM.  I think he is refering to same ones that Dariush Kadivar is talking about.

The brave ones in Iran need any help they can get.  Iran now is not the country it was last week, and I do not think at this juncture it is helpful to call JM last-minute patriots or full time opportunists.

I commend JM for this message.

These aren't last-minute patriots. They're full time opportunists.

My understanding from a post from Capt. Ayhab is that among those who were on the receiving end of live ammunition, one of the victims is a young girl. A child.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you reform, IR-style.

The people of Iran did not listen to all those groups from whom you reported before when you preached the boycott.

What makes these groups think that the Iranians need a reminder to keep fighting? Especially from groups who have been wrong and made the wrong political decisions for 30 years in a row!
