Iran Did Not Suspend Players, Coach Says
NY Times / Jack Bell

Afshin Ghotbi, the coach of Iran’s national team, said that the country’s soccer officials had taken no action against players who wore green wristbands in a recent World Cup game in solidarity with a presidential candidate who was disputing the results of the June 12 election.

“The stories on the players are false and rumors,” Ghotbi said Friday in an e-mail message. “The I.F.F. has not taken any official stand on this issue. We only saw the story in the international media.”

Ghotbi, who holds dual United States and Iranian citizenship after immigrating to the United States with his family in his early teens, was referring to the Iranian Football Federation.

the release of Iranian diplomats was only... and I repeat ONLY... beause it was part of the ORIGINAL agreement under which the US would leave Iraq.  It has absolutely jack shit to do with appeasing the IRI.

Quote, unquote:  Iran's ambassador to Iraq, Hassan Kazemi-Qomi, said the diplomats would be released under the terms of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) -- which requires the US military to deliver more than 1500 prisoners, including the non-Iraqi nationals, to the Baghdad government.

To speed up negotiation with Iran, US finally

by Jaleho on

releases the Iranian diplomats. The very thorny issue of Iranian diplomats abducted by US in Iraq is coming to an end:

"Mohsen Hakim, the Tehran representative of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, has announced that the Iranian diplomats would be handed to the Iraqi government on Tuesday.

The Iranian diplomats were mostly abducted when US forces raided the Iranian consulate office in the northern Iraqi city of Arbil. "

Anonymous fish and t and Payam , agreed guys.

Assal B, I’m glad that you say that.

Anonynous7, I see that you were sticking you head in the sand the last few days since the regime you defended so passionately was exposed forever. Remember how you used to defend it? Well, its legitimacy has been shattered forever, and the beginning of the end for it has started. So a big BEELAKH to you, to put it mildly. If you truly have any sense of decency, the least you can do, is to admit you were wrong, as I know a few who bravely actually came out and said so. I won’t hold my breath though.

If I were in your position supporting a Fascist regime like this, I would not be able to live with myself. But I guess in order to be an IRI supporter; you need to get rid of any sense of decency, shame and humanity you have.

Thanks for News; NOT PROPAGANDA

by Jaleho on

I liked in particular this link from you. It is refreshing to hear some articles of reality among the massive flood of propagand  by the western media. It is interesting to see the west backtrack quickly all that propaganda now that it failed, because they HAVE TO AND WILL QUICKLY DEAL WITH REALITY, not the failed propaganda.

Watch the US speed up negotiation with Ahmadinejad since they HAVE TO!

Can we stop making every issue into a conspiracy?

If the players were suspended for life, believe me, Ali Karimi would be speaking up about it.

for heavens sake!

by anonymous fish on

Would any rationale human being expect him to say otherwise?  As if THIS is not propagandist bullshit from the IRI but everything else is?   So.  when the IRI says something... anything... it's a fact.  And we're supposed to believe it.  Oh god.  What next?

Shah Gholam,

by Farhad Kashani on

Shah Gholam,

Everything about IRI has been “false news”. 30 years of rape, murder, torture, imprisonment of our people has been “false news”. Khamenei’s brutal dictatorship has been “false news”. People’s heroic uprising against tyranny and oppression is all “false news”. Neda was “false news”.

Well , let me tell you “real news”, the beginning of the end has started for IRI regime. You can try as hard as you can to perpetuate moronic propaganda, but that will not save IRIs sinking ship.

Keep trying.
