A tyrannical government is by nature in a constant state of war with its own people. There are periods of truce, but none of real peace. We in the democratic world generally think of government as an institution established by the people to serve their needs, even if it often fails. But the rulers in a place like Iran are more like conquerors presiding over a subject people.
Sometimes, like right now, that fact becomes inescapable, even to subjects who had imagined they were in the care of humane and benevolent guardians. Iranians who voted for Mir Hossein Mousavi, only to see their votes disregarded, now discover their country is ruled by an organized-crime gang that is prepared to use any means to maintain its grip.

The IR regime
by Kaveh Nouraee on Thu Jul 02, 2009 11:47 AM PDTis not a government based upon Islam. It's a regime that prostitutes Islam to justify its actions.
It's really no different than what you see with those bible-thumping zealots who call themselves Christian, twisting and manipulating every single decent thing about Jesus to use against others.
Anon465...you put it very well,....a secular government will indeed guarantee respect for religion...all of them.
As to the brainwashing by mollahs, I would take it a bit further and say that the mollahs are taking advantage of the faith and piety of some Iranians to further their crooked agenda.
Secular government also guarantees respect for religion
by Anonymous465465654 (not verified) on Thu Jul 02, 2009 06:37 AM PDTIslam in case of Iran is more respected and maintains its true spiritual value when it is completely separated from running the affairs of state because then it will not be blamed for all the state's shortcomings.
The problem is that some people in Iran have been brainwashed by mullahs in the last 30 years to think that a Secular state means a Godless state.
IRI GOVERNMENT MAKES ME SICK
by THE PERSIAN (not verified) on Wed Jul 01, 2009 06:59 PM PDTWhat makes me sick is that SOME of the Muslims right here in the US (acquaintances...certainly not friends...at a local mosque) are actually siding with the IRI government just because, as they claim, "they are Islamic" or that "it's a government based on Islam".
I think Islam is great, however, the IRI government's brand of Islam is UNISLAMIC and HURTS true Muslims in Iran.
Just because some government wears the label or declares itself *Islamic*, DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT ACTUALLY IS.
The Iranians inside Iran have been through enough. A real and just Islamic government does not result in tyranny.
The IRI government is despotic and does not represent true Islam. I would rather see a secular government there where people can choose their religion (or none at all) where there is respect for the people rather than this self-serving, greedy government of corrupt beings.
