The chief political analyst at the British Embassy in Iran has been charged with "acting against national security", reports suggest. The UK Foreign Office is investigating claims by his lawyer that he has been charged and will stand trial shortly. A senior cleric has said some of the nine embassy staff arrested last month will be tried for inciting protests over Iran's disputed election. Britain denies fomenting discontent to undermine Iran's Islamic regime.

Dear Baradar Javid
by Toofantheoncesogreat (not verified) on Sat Jul 04, 2009 07:46 PM PDTThe 1.6 billion frozen were the money Mojtaba Khamenei had planned on using on his sex vacation to Europe. Thats why the UK froze the money, and thats why Khamenei is driving our people in confrontation with Britan, because of his corrupt son's allowance money.
Oh boy...

"I’ve argued strongly for engagement with Iran as a game-changer. America renewed relations with the Soviet Union at the time of the Great Terror and China at the time of the Cultural Revolution. Operation Jackboot has not, as yet at least, involved mass killings. But the Iran of today is not the Iran of three weeks ago; it is in volatile flux from without and within. Its Robespierres are running amok. Obama must do nothing to suggest business as usual. Let Ahmadinejad, he of the bipolar mood swings, fret and sweat. Let him writhe in the turbid puddle of his self-proclaimed “justice” and “ethics.” "
Your book vs the law
by Jahanshah Javid on Sat Jul 04, 2009 01:29 PM PDTOstaad, I did not call this guy "chief political analyst at the British Embassy in Iran" -- the reporter did. That aside, he may be a traitor in your book, but being a political analyst at a foreign embassy is not against the law. Governments do not operate based on your "book". There is something called international law which governs ALL countries. Diplomats from every country (including Iran) consult with native political analysts. You may not like it, but it's not illegal. And that is not why this man has been arrested. He has been working for the British embassy with full knowledge of the Iranian foreign ministry for a long time. The reason he has now been arrested is that the Iranian government needs to to blame the current crisis on foreign agents.
JJ, you said "the chief political analyst"?
by Ostaad on Sat Jul 04, 2009 01:06 PM PDTI don't know any of these people, but if you're asking me, in my book anyone who gives political advice to the Brits in Iran in any capacity is working against Iran. Working for the Brits at the capacity of the political analyst, whose conclusions would definitely be used against Iran's interests as the Brits have always done, is a bad thing.
Iran should have kept its political and diplomatic relations with the UK at the minimum level. The Brits are worse than earthquakes or any form of natural disaster for Iran. Keep the MFs out of Iran.
They just gobbled up something like $1.6 BILLION of Iranian money, which the Iranian government had foolishly kept in Britain. The Brits have never shied away from looting Iran and this is just the most recent example.
PS - DK, did the Brits "inform" you that money belonged to Mojtaba Khaemei?! If you believe that, then I have a ski chalet near Najaf to sell. It is half price for simpletons.
AN Policy
by David ET on Sat Jul 04, 2009 11:35 AM PDTThere was a key comment that AN made during the presidentail debate about his foreign policy , Holocaust etc. He said we shouldn't wait and play their games , we should create our own situation and then let them fall in to our traps and that we way we remain in control.
This move to CREATE OUTSIDE TENSION is obviously nothing new in the games of IR since the US hostage taking etc. and Britain knowing IR very well key respond was : These things don't work ANYMORE.
They both know the game and nothing new for either.
WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT IS FOR IRANIANS NOT TO FALL IN THE TRAP , ONE WAY OR ANOTHER and to stay focused on the movement as if the BS does not exists or Iranians simply don't care about .
Oh, they are not as paranoid here as they used to be.
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Sat Jul 04, 2009 11:12 AM PDTThey used to blame the British, the French, the Russians, the MKO, the Arabs and the Qajars..Now they only blame the U.S. and Israel and each other.
lol
Really Darius?
by Anonymousity (not verified) on Sat Jul 04, 2009 10:21 AM PDTIs it really because of the frozen assets?
Or is it because of the same paranoia that I constantly read on this web site claiming that Britain is behind anything bad that happens to Iran? So many Iranians live too far in the past to see past the ends of their noses.
As you said its because of Khamenei's son's fortune freezed ...
