There's more that meest the eye...

I do not agree with Mr. Shariatmadari's assertion that the regime wants to get rid of the عناصر هزینه‌بر و مزاحم. Mr. Rafsanjani and others who have played major roles in the establishment and running of the Eslamic regime of Iran, are necessary and useful components of the regime.  Certainly there are difference of opinion and intense political grouping as well as infighting among the ruling elite, but the "third side" that he mentions that is the Iranian people are not operating at par with the opposing elements in the regime.  "The people", or one of the three sides Mr. Shariatmadari mentions, are kept out of the game, therefore they are outside the regime looking in. The people's can only influence the regime by actively opposing it. Rafsanjani and others who are merely objecting to the way the election results were handled, will oppose the people's will if they find it counter to their economic/political interests. In that sense, I don't see any doublespeak nor contradictions in Mr. Rafsanjani's speech.

The only struggle which will bring the people back in the field is to eradicate the Velayat-e-Fagheeh concept which acts as the costitutional shackles hindering the Iranian people from achieving the goal of having full human/civil rights.
