Iran triggers a touch of hypocrisy

Why does no one complain about Tunisia, where Zine al Abidine Ben Ali won 94.5 per cent of the vote in 2004; Egypt, where Hosni Mubarak scored 88 per cent the following year; and Algeria, where Abdelaziz Bouteflika achieved more than 90 per cent this year?

These questions have nagged some Arabs (and westerners) as Iran’s drama has unfolded, captivating the world and provoking condemnation.

Yet it was not so much the rigging but the furious reaction to the fraud that raised interest in Iran’s election crisis.

In many cases in the Arab world, the assumption that the outcome of polls is a foregone conclusion has created an unfortunate state of political apathy among the public, leaving few willing to vote and few credible candidates wanting to contest presidential elections.

But everybody was whining over Hamas a while ago

by Hypocrisy at best (not verified) on

I remember the main focus here on Iranian.com a while ago was ONLY the PALESTINIANS! every day I stumbled upon this site I noticed barely any mention of Iran but Palestine, Palestinians, and their fight against Israelis quite in tune with mullah leaders of Iran like it was any of our business! some people were tearing themselves apart for them behind their pcs (specially Cameron Batmanghelich! where has he been recently? why no reaction from him over all the killings agaisnt his compatriots? or maybe he does not consider himself Iranian but rather a Palestinian!!!). some people also justified all the senseless overblown emotions on this site by saying that as human beings we should always care about the suffering of other people (yet conveniently and Is houdl add hypocritically forgetting the suffering of muslim people in Darfur and Chechniya)!

Don't take me wrong! I agree that we should care but one should also ask oneself, do those people care about our suffering?!! they proved how much they cared a couple of weeks ago when we found out by eyewitness acoounts that their beloved Hamas dispatched thugs to Iran to beat upon defenseless protesters as a favor to Mahmood and his boss, to make up for millions and millions of dollars worth of cash and ammunition already sent to Khaled Mash'al and Ismael Haniyeh from Iran!

Every time I read one of your posts, I have to run to the bathroom with a severe case of explosive diarrhea.  Do you think the two are related?

WINNING v. WHINING

by Great Point (not verified) on

Great Point.
Iranians (and Im one) are better at whining than winning.
We have elections. And despite vettings - the range form reformist to conservative is broader than pretty much the entire Middle East.

For those who expcet a French Democracy, or a US one - for that matter - well, work at it. The US tooki 89 years (from kicking out the Brits, through several Revolutionary Wars and finally a Civil War to reach a semblance of peace and stability.)

We are leagues ahead of our entire Middle East neighborhood - and yet we whine.

2009's highly unusual results, do indeed call for serious questions - but let's focus on winning and not whining, Iranian people.

You don't go from not having elections for 2500 years - to an overnight Democracy. Work at it; and in the case of 2009 - protest it if you like. Be proud of the fact that our Presdents change (and YES there is a difference between Khatami/Moussavi and Ahamdinejad) - as opposed the Arab Sheikdoms, Kingdoms and Presidents like Egypts Mubarak the article menitons, who are in power for 30 years.

First off, IRI (and not

by Farhad Kashani on

First off, IRI (and not Iran) is not singled out. World public opinion stand united against all murderous regimes. They stand against China, Cuba, N Korea, Sudan, and now IRI regime.

Furhtermore, IRI is more dangerous than all the other regimes since 1- It is the single biggest inspirer, promoter and supporter of Islamic fundamentalism. 2- One of most brutal regimes when it comes to treating its people. 3- Its the single biggest promoter of clash between civilizations. 4- There are many other reasons!

So thats why the world was happy. Even U2 and Bon Jovi sang. Because the world, and specially Iranians want to see the rgime and its supporters GO TO HELL.

Why should we care about you Arabs ?

by IranFirst (not verified) on

The answer is, this is an IRANIAN site, and if you Arabs are upset about something you can have your own Palestinian site and cry about your miserable lives as you wish. Leave us alone, don't take Iranian money to spend it on exploding your selves and then come here advising us we should be happy with our criminal Islamic rulers.

Iranians will NOT forget how you took our money and sided with Saddam in his his killing of Iranians during the war. Look for sympathy from people who don't know your kind.
