The United States is behind the riots in Xinjiang," said an analysis published by the official Islamic Republic News Agency, or IRNA. "Living conditions have improved for the Chinese Muslims. These riots have no religious aspect and they are just the outcome of a U.S. conspiracy. However, the Western media have exaggerated the events in Xinjiang."…The government's domestic critics have been outraged by its response. Already emboldened and angered by the marred reelection of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, they have been quick to pounce. Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi demanded that the Foreign Ministry quickly condemn what he described as the Chinese government's "horrible" backing of "racist Han Chinese" violence against Muslim Uighurs. Here are excerpts from a statement by the high-ranking cleric, carried by the Iranian Labor News Agency:…

Ayatollah Sobhani calls for condemnation.
It is fascinating how IRI pushes this in the press without officially condemning it.
No, I think they 'care'..
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Mon Jul 13, 2009 08:44 AM PDTat least as much as they 'care' about any other Muslims. TI that is the reason why Mehr picked this up after it came out on that L'semi-official' Labor radio. As well as now officially announcing that China must protect the Muslims while not officially condemning the Chinese actions. Of course it is about pragmatics.
In a sense, they are doing the same thing Obama did but in reverse. They are not officially condemning the human rights end, but they are offically acknowledging China's need for action at the political end. While encouraging (in this case publicizing) others who do the condemnation at the human rights end for them
I guess when they thought about those three headlines of Press TV yesterday, censuring and even threatening action one each for human rights violations in Italy, Germany and the US, even they felt stupid about omitting China.
It is all about money
by HATEIRI on Mon Jul 13, 2009 06:04 AM PDTChina is the greatest trading partner to IRI
