She says she will be dead within a week if she is sent back home. She says her dad threatened to kill her.
Culture clash?
by ex programmer craig on Fri Aug 21, 2009 04:59 PM PDTIf such brutality and cruelty is "cultural" then perhaps Germany should consider not issuing visa to anyone who comes from cultures that accept violently pyschotic outbursts as normal behavior? I doubt such actions would have been accepted in Germany even 2000 years ago when Germans were dressing in animal skins and sleeping in the dirt. I'm going to choose to believe that this man and perhaps the whole family are just aberrations. Because the alternative is pretty effing disturbing.
On a related note, what should the US do in this case?

Should we believe that her Muslim family will not harm here, even though she says they fear that they will? If she is ordered to return to her family and ends up dead, will it be because the US didn't understand the "culture" of her family? She's 17. I was declared an emancipated minor when I was 16. The judge has the power to declare her an adult capable of making her own decisions, and I think that's what he should do. Just in case. We don't want to be like Germany, over here!
What a sad story!
by yolanda on Fri Aug 21, 2009 08:54 AM PDTIt is like an arranged incest! The guy is just too chauvinist and too macho! The judge is too harsh, I think!
Thanks for sharing!
