The sixth meeting of the fourth session of the Assembly of Experts
wound up its work while its head Hashemi Rafsanjani was conspicuously
absence during the reading of the Assembly’s final statement which in
itself became a topic of debate.  In the statement members of the
Assembly - which is constitutionally charged with overseeing the
performance of Iran’s supreme leader - “renewed allegiance with the
revolutionary leader ayatollah Khamenei,” announcing their “absolute
backing” for him, and described him as “the sole choice that befits the
robe of leadership” and added that he “had demonstrated more than
before, his effective leadership during the elections.”
