The expansion of cooperation was announced during a visit to Teheran by Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko on Nov. 29.

Shmatko said Russia would complete energy projects in Iran, particularly the nuclear reactor in Bushehr. The Russian energy minister was expected to tour Bushehr during his current visit.

Shmatko said the cooperation would include the development of a joint electric grid as well Iran's South Pars natural gas field.

"It is possible to develop major chemical complexes here on the basis of oil and gas resources," Shmatko said.

"First of all, we can use the blocks of the South Pars gas field, where the Russian gas major, Gazprom, is currently operating."
