The White House and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton put pressure Thursday on Iran to divulge information about Robert Levinson, a retired South Florida FBI agent who disappeared from a Persian Gulf island in 2007.

The call from the White House came as the Coral Springs man's family marked the 1,000th day since his disappearance with meetings at the State Department and FBI. National security advisor James L. Jones also met with the family ``to reassure them that Bob's case remains a priority for the United States,'' the White House said.

"The United States calls on the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to assist in providing any information on Mr. Levinson's whereabouts and in ensuring his prompt and safe return to his family," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement. ``Obviously this is a
deeply painful day for Bob's family and friends.''

The FBI and State Department similarly called for cooperation, with the FBI -- the lead agency that investigates the disappearance of Americans overseas -- noting that it has ``not received any information from Iranian authorities to date.''

Clinton echoed Gibbs' remarks and noted that although Iranian authorities had promised the family it would share information about the investigation, ``that promise has yet to be fulfilled.
