وقایع روز عاشورا و ناتوانی حکومت در سرکوب مردم و فتح خیابانها توسط جنبش سبز، حکومت را با این واقعیت تلخ آشنا نموده که نارضایتی عمومی وارد مرحله کاملاً جدیدی شده که بسیار خطرناک و غیرقابل کنترل است.
به این ترتیب سخت ترین جنگ قدرت داخلی در بدنه حکومت شکل گرفته و صف بندی خودی ها به مرحله سرنوشت سازی رسیده است. اکثریت 80 درصدی جناح معتدل حکومت، اینک بر درستی تحلیل ها و نظریاتشان پافشاری نموده و پیدایش شرایط موجود را نتیجه عدم توجه رهبر به نصایح خودشان می دانند. این گروه حتی قبل از انتخابات نیز با اتکا به آمار و اطلاعات موجود، گره خوردن اعتبار رهبری با جناح احمدی نژاد و تندروهای سپاه را به ضرر کل نظام دانسته و آنرا سبب سقوط جایگاه رهبری بهمراه این گروه می دانستند.
زمانی که میرحسین موسوی ناباورانه موفق شد در جریان مبارزات انتخاباتی، مردم را در توده های انبوه به خیابانها کشانیده و امید به تغییر را در دل آنها زنده نماید، ا... >>>

As bad as things have been

As bad as things have been for Iranian protesters, the government could make it much bloodier. But then it risks straining the loyalty of the police/ basij and eroding IRI legitimacy even further. I hardly see the second option of clemency as very likely as the hardliners would be afraid it would be taken as a sign of their weakness. (Of course the reality is that they engage in such extensive repression reveals their weakness). My heart bleeds for the dilemma that the poor IRI ruling class finds itself in.

Most likely IRI will continue to control and limit communications, kill 'only' a few protesters at a time, and use state propaganda to keep the loyalists on their side. And IRI's hope is that the West will do something dumb to unite the country.
