Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan to Air Joint TV Programs in March

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan plan to launch a
joint Persian-language TV station in March, Iranian Envoy to Dushanbe
Ali Asqar She'rdoust announced on Sunday.

"We hope to be able to launch the Persian-language TV station for
the people of the three brotherly countries who enjoy the same language
and culture by Norouz ceremonies (March 21)," She'rdoust said, reminding
that there is almost just one month left to the new year (Norouz)
ceremonies.

Stressing the need for the rapid launch of the TV station, he
criticized the Afghan culture ministry for a delay in announcing its
readiness to cooperate with the Iranian and Tajik officials in this
regard.

The TV station is due to kick off work with a startup budget of
$2.5mln and with 110 crew and personnel.

A Tajik media official had announced in February that Dushanbe is
prepared to launch a joint TV station with the other two
Persian-language speaking countries of Iran and Afghanistan.

"A joint TV for the Persian-language speakers set up through
partnership of Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, broadcasting programs
for only these three countries, is a proper ground for expanding
cooperation among these countries," Head of Tajikistan's Radio and
Television Committee Asadollah Rahmanov said.
