Iran discovers $85bn oil and gas reserves

TEHRAN: A recently discovered gasfield in Iran has reserves of 12.4 trillion cubic feet, with an estimated 249 million barrels of condensate gas, an energy official said yesterday.

Iran said it had discovered the Soumar oilfield and Halgan gasfield with total value of reserves at $85 billion.

National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) director of exploration Mahmoud Mohaddes said that around 70 per cent of the gas was recoverable and less than half of the condensate gas was recoverable.

"Considering that the recovery at gasfields usually stands at 70-75pc, it is projected that about 70pc of the field's in-place reserves, equivalent to 8.938 cubic trillion feet, are recoverable."

The gasfield's in-place gas reserve stands at 12.4trn cubic feet, or 355bn cubic metres, with the volume of condensates estimated at 249m barrels, he said.

He said that of the 249m barrels of condensates, 98m are recoverable.

"At current prices, the Halgan gasfield's reserves is valued at more than $83bn," Mohaddes said, adding Iran had spent $36m on discovering the field over a period of more than two years.

He said that once the field is developed, NIOC will be able to produce 50m cubic metres of gas a day over a 20-year period.

Iran sits on the world's second-largest natural gas reserves after Russia, but US and UN sanctions imposed over its disputed nuclear work have delayed development of major exports.

Are you back already after your last account was deleted? Khosh amadid, IRI cyber groupie. It's funny you mention Usama bin Laden, because he is an Islamist tumor, just like the cancerous regime that you vomit up propaganda for (while living in the decadent West, of course).

Anti_IRI Arguments ring hollow

You are so courageous.  Hiding behind pseudo-names and attacking IRI and its leaders who happen to be "taje sare" mellat.

Oh, yeah, keep fighting IRI while you hide in a hole ala Usama bin Laden style.  Encourage others to fight while you maintain fake ids AND seasonally visit IRAN and enjoy from the resources and wealth that God has bestowed upon Iran.

According to both the IMF and World Bank estimates of GDP per capita (purchasing power parity), Turkey is ranked higher than Iran. The CIA World Factbook ranking is the only one in which Iran is higher than Turkey (though even in that one, Iran is lower than Gabon and Mexico). Turkey also doesn't have the 2nd largest natural gas reserves and 3rd largest oil reserves in the world--Iran does! During the Shah's era, Iran was quite a bit wealthier than Turkey.

Nothing has stunted Iran's growth more than the murderous, medieval, corrupt, and incompetent regime which has been ruling it for the past 31 years. This pathetic economic record comes in site of 31 years of oil and natural gas revenues for the IRI. (Bear in mind that the Shah's regime had high oil revenues only from 1973-1978, that's it). I am sure you are very proud from your home in the U.S. that the Rapist Regime has a lower GDP per capita than Gabon or Botswana. Keep peddling your nonsense.

Depends on the reports you read. In one of the latest reports, Iran's GDP actually passed Turkey.

US/Israeli sanctions are really designed to unnaturally stunt Iran's economic growth, to keep it from becoming a rival with the potential to pass Israel as the dominant power in the ME.

New energy reserves? Great news. With the emerging changes to the international order, politics will inevitably change, and those reserves will someday be brought out of the ground.

A lot of good 31 years of oil and natural gas revenues did...

by AMIR1973 on

The pathetic state of misery brought upon Iranians by the IRI can be divided into 2 major categories: 1) an abysmal human right's record characterized by an exponentially larger number of Iranians executed than under the Shah, as well as a whole host of barbaric punishments, including stonings and floggings, for adultery and other such "crimes"

2) A woeful state of the Iranian economy, with lower average income than in 1976, and a standard of living not in keeping with 3 decades of oil and natural gas revenues. Just consider the following:

Iran's 2007 ranking of Human Development Index (HDI) in 2007 was 88th in the world (behing Azerbaijan and Thailand); it was 95th in life expectancy (behind Samoa and El Salvador); 94th in adult literacy rate (behind Botswana and Syria); 59th in poverty index (behind Sao Tome and Principe and Mongolia); 58th in Probability of not surviving to age 40 (behind Panama and Maldives); 52nd in People not using an improved water source (behind Tunisia and Grenada); 64th in Children underweight for age (behind Swaziland and El Salvador).

With respect to Comparing Females as % males, it was 165th in Life expectancy at birth (behind Algeria and Iceland); 90th in Adult literacy rate (behind Peru and Saudi Arabia); and 106th in Combined primary, secondary and tertiary gross enrolment ratio (behind Maldives and Mauretania).

The following is just a partial list of countries that all have higher GDP per capita (purchasing power parity) than the IRI:

Romania, Panama, Bulgaria, Belarus, Mauritius, Gabon, Mexico, Venezuela, Botswana, Turkey, Libya, etc, etc

The most noticeable of

by vildemose on

The most noticeable of Holden’s “peculiarities” is how extremely judgmental he is of almost everything and everybody. He criticizes and philosophizes about people who are boring, people who are insecure, and, above all, people who are “phony.” Holden carries this penchant for passing judgment to such an extreme that it often becomes extremely funny, such as when he speculates that people are so crass that someone will probably write “fuck you” on his tombstone. Holden applies the term “phony” not to people who are insincere but to those who are too conventional or too typical—for instance, teachers who “act like” teachers by assuming a different demeanor in class than they do in conversation, or people who dress and act like the other members of their social class.

Dear Palestinian HC: Your salvation does not lie in stooging for the IRI. You are sadly mistaken if the IRI is going to liberate your land and you people.

I don't read Hebrew. You've been hanging out too much with the Basijis and think all Iranians are the same. You must be another Arab mercenary stooging for the IRI.

Mozdooir ro bezar kenar...Iran male arabah va omashoon  nist. In ro toyeh maghzetoon sabt koni.

Now, have your basiji handlers translate that.
