The leaders of the Reform rabbinate, the
world's largest group of Jewish clergy, have issued a statement
urging
Congress and President Obama to act speedily to strengthen sanctions
against Iran in order to prevent the country from coming closer to
full
nuclear capabilities. The statement was issued during the Central
Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR) 121st Annual Convention which
took
place last week in San Francisco, CA.
According to the statement, "...a bipartisan coalition in the House
of
Representatives introduced the Iran Sanctions Enhancement Act, which
would
enhance the existing sanctions regime by requiring accountability on
behalf
of all arms of the U.S. government. In keeping with long-standing
CCAR
positions, we support this proposed legislation and other moves like
it
that may prove necessary in the weeks and months ahead."
Following is the full text of the statement from the CCAR leaders.
