Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has muted his tone on Israel in an interview with a French TV station.

An interviewer for TF1 television asked Ahmadinejad if he was still calling for Israel's destruction, as he has in the past. He responded, "we don't seek anyone's destruction," and added that the "Palestinian people must get their rights back."

But the Iranian president also noted that Israel has not always existed and said it was "created through occupation."
