The UN Security Council has approved new financial and arms controls on Iran by a strong majority vote. The new sanctions are described as the toughest yet, with the aim of pushing Tehran to halt its controversial nuclear programme. But the Iranian President immediately dismissed the resolution as a 'used handkerchief'.
