TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Ambassador to Masqat Hossein Noushabadi announced on Saturday that the Omani government has decided to release 102 Iranian nationals held in the country's prisons for different crimes.
"Fortunately, following continued follow-ups and after my meeting with Mr. Sultan Qaboos (bin Said Al Said) where I raised the issue, his Excellency has agreed with the freedom of these prisoners on the threshold of the 40th anniversary of his kingship," Noushabadi told FNA.
FNA dispatches also said that after Sultan Qaboos pardoned the Iranian prisoners, a delegation from Iran's Law Enforcement Police headed by Iran's Deputy Policy Chief General Hosseinabadi traveled to Masqat and held meetings with Omani police chief, Law Enforcement Police officials and the officials of Oman's prisons.
Following the meetings, it was decided that the freed Iranian nationals be extradited to Iran this week.
Iran and Oman have recently expanded cooperation in a variety of areas such as economy and defense.
The Islamic Republic of Iran and Oman signed a security agreement in August 2009.
The two Persian Gulf littoral states have also recently endorsed an agreement on extradition of criminals.
