Amid reports that water in parts of Tehran may be tainted with high levels of toxic nitrate, the Ministry of Power has handed out free bottles of water to an underprivileged suburb south of the city.
Parliamentarian Hasan Ta’mini, a member of the Health and Medicare Commission, reported that authorities had hoped to address the water crisis within a week, though no solution has yet been announced.

Unreal
by MRX1 on Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:10 AM PDTonce again we are observing the incompetence of IRI providing a safe drinking water to the capital. At the same time we should be confident that the old soviet style nuclear reactor which will be finished in the year 3014 will be safe with no problem while these morons are in charge and operating it!
If the morons in charge bothered to look at the reports and geography of the country, they would have realized water was/is and will be the main issue affecting life, politics and even stability of the country.
Tehran can not accomidate 10 million plus people (Even if there is a land left for construction, there is no water, all the sources have been utilized) , nearly 1/2 of a country is in arid or semi arid region, rapid population increase due to destruction of famiy planning by mullah's , Natural and artifical changes in climate also attributedto the current and future problem. It really would have been nice if the fraction of the money that was spent on nuclear junk, russian and chinese junk, would have been spend on building bunch of water desalinazation plants near persian gulf, but then again that requires care, thinking, planning and love of a country, some thing that one can not expect from these low lifes.
