A group of ex-CIA officials have written an open letter to US
President Barack Obama, warning him that Israel may attack Iran as early
as August, which “would likely lead to a wider war.”

“Israel’s leaders would calculate that once the battle is joined, it
will be politically untenable for you to give anything less than
unstinting support to Israel, no matter how the war started, and that
U.S. troops and weaponry would flow freely. Wider war could eventually
result in the destruction of the state of
Israel,” say the letter written by the group VIPS (Veteran Intelligence
Professionals for Sanity), which includes W. Patrick Lang, Larry
Johnson, and Ray McGovern among its ranks.

Israel National News describes describes the letter as being “distinctly anti-Israel.”

However, influential neo-con and former CIA Middle East specialist Reuel Marc Gerecht, who wrote a recent article in The Weekly Standard arguing for an Israeli strike on Iran, also believes the US would be pulled into such a conflict.
