TEHRAN – German lawmaker Elke Hoffe agrees with Iran’s view that complaints about human rights issues are mostly politically motivated.

Elke Hoffe, head of the German-Iran parliamentary friendship group, made the remarks in a meeting with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affaires Ali Ahani in Tehran on Thursday.

Hoffe said there are only few countries in the world who fully observe human rights.

Germans speak with forked tongue?

There is more. First of all, in the great IRI tradition of journalistic excellence, her name is Hoff, not Hoffe. Some people in Germany don't like her and her German Iranian friendship group.

Neither does jpost.

Apparently Merkel doesn't want to close the Hamburg-based Iranian EIH bank (Europaeisch- Iranische Handelsbank), which Obama says helps finance the nuclear program.

I am not in  favor of the sanctions or against the enrichment, but what I don't understand is why that should entail whitewashing IRI's human wrongs record. And she must've said something, because IRI wouldn't've fabricated it just to shoot themselves in the foot. What I would really like is to see a fuller transcript and commentary on Elke Hoffe's [sic] remarks beyond the Tehran Times' Pulitzer level reportage. But can't seem to find anything, not even in German. Can't imagine why.

Anyway here is a picture of parlamentarian Hoff in her stylish business suit.
