Iran threatens to boycott 2012 Olympics after it claims that logo spells out 'Zion'

It seems the Iranian National Olympic Committee may be spending a little too much time playing Magic Eye.

Bahram Afsharzadeh, the secretary general of the country's Olympic committee, told the country's official news service that he believes logo for the 2012 Olympics  spells out "Zion" -- a term widely used to refer to Jerusalem.

Afsharzadeh said he aired his concerns in a letter to International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge and that if his concerns are not addressed, the country may boycott the games.

"There is no doubt that negligence of the issue from your side may affect the presence of some countries in the games, especially Iran, which abides by commitment to the values and principles," the letter said, according to the Iranian official.

I also think that neither Khamenei nor Ahmadenijad should be forced to attend the games. They will probably also be confused by the olympic fire, seeing it a Zoroastrian symbol. And what about all the femal athlets, showing their naked skin to seduce the islamic leaders ?  

No, no, better stay at home. But maybe in 2012 this question is not relevant any more, because both of you and your breed already spend the first month of your life-time imprisonment for all the crimes you did against your people. Maybe if you behave well in jail, they will give you a TV set for the two weeks of the games, so you may watch free Iranians who attend the games and enjoy the competition and celebration with other free people in a free world.

OMG! This Yahoo article says:

It's not the first time that the logo has been at the centre of an unusual complaint: it has been heavily criticised ever since first being unveiled in 2007, and has been compared to everything from a swastika to a stylised image of two people making love.

Here is the logo! The right side is construed as a girl, the left side a boy! Wow! People have real wild imagination!

Pretty soon, IRI is going to call the logo the pornographic logo!

YOu know I think the the executive committee in charge of the games should be happy and welcom this development now since this can be looked at as a cost saving measure. Yuppiee!!!

And as far as our promising talents and prospects. Looks like they need to put on their I-need-to-cross-the border-to a european country shoe...

Just finished watching Rachel Maddow show! The Olympic Logo was designed in 2007, IRI complained about it today to seek attention and at the same time to divert the attention from the news that Mousavi and karoubi got arrested! IRI's trick has failed!

If IRI could see Khomeini's face on the moon, sure they could see "Zion" from 2012! It sounds like IRI wanted to stir up all the Arab/Muslim countries to join the boycot!

It is funny that IRI always sees the stuff they wanted to see, but they don't see regime change written anywhere?

The IOC said it had received the letter from IRI but didn't plan to change the logo -- and rejected the Iranian claims.
