Ghassem Sholeh Saadi, a Tehran University professor and former lawmaker, has been arrested by Islamic Republic authorities. According to his personal website, Sholeh Saadi was reportedly arrested at Tehran's Mehrabad airport upon returning from Shiraz. The authorities have not indicated their reason for arresting the professor of law and international relations.

Sholeh Saadi sought candidacy in the 2009 presidential election but was disqualified by the Guardian Council, which the opposition often accuses of bias toward conservatives.
