LONDON: The Saudi Arabian National Guard sent into Bahrain to crush protests receives training from the British military, a newspaper revealed yesterday.
The training, including in weapons and public order, is organised by the British Military Mission to the Saudi Arabian National Guard, documents obtained by The Observer under freedom-of-information legislation show.
The secretive group is said to consist of 11 British Army staff under the command of a brigadier.
The disclosure comes amid criticism that the British government has not been as tough in tackling the Bahraini and Syrian regimes as it has in taking on Muammar Gaddafi in Libya.
Nicholas Gilby, of the Campaign Against the Arms Trade, said: ''Britain's important role in training the Saudi Arabian National Guard in internal security over many years has enabled them to develop tactics to help suppress the popular uprising in Bahrain.''
The Ministry of Defence said that British involvement in training foreign forces was intended to engender a culture of respect for human rights.
A spokesman said: ''The UK provides world-class defence training and education to many countries, including in the Gulf, creating lasting ties between our armed forces and enhancing their ability to work together towards regional security and stability.

You are correct that we have a lot of our own problems that can not be and should not be blamed on anyones else. At the same time we have all these, for lack of a better term, scumbags such as Saudie Arabia, and all those 'shiek-doms' that only aggrevate, enhance and augment our problems. All these issues internal and external shall be addressed and hopefully resolved.

My point is I am sick and tired of reading posts that serve to bash and blame others for actions of the dictators and criminals. I dont know where you live but you have conveniently handpicked and misrepresented British democracy and law to serve your own prejudice.
The UK provides world-class defence training and education to many countries, including in the Gulf. How the Saudis treat their people, and why Iranians accepted an Islamic Republic cannot be blamed on other countries, it is our own culture that is responsible for the mess we are in. I have been thinking for a while to write a blog about Saudi and its recent history but unfortunately have not found the time to do so. Will hopefully do soon but meanwhile I refer all those interested to a very valuable book about the Saud family "The House of Saud" by Said K Aburish.
Unfortunately we have people like Alireza Nourizadeh who seem to be so biased about Saudis just because he financially benefits from interviews with the Al Arabia TV station. The know-nothing person here is either the same or just illiterate in these matters.

البته لازم هست از این دوستِ عزیز بپرسیم، آخه مگه تو فضولی که من در مورد جنایتهای چه رژیمی مینویسم؟ مگر این دیکتاتور عربستان یا جنایت کار اسرائیل پسر عموی شما هستند؟ در ضمن JJ به ما‌ها نگفت که شمارو مامور کرده که اخبار هارو تایید یا تکذیب کنید. این کارِ مامور اطلاعات در رژیم‌های دیکتاتوری مثل جمهوری اسلامیست.
البته لازم به سوال است که چرا وقتی در مورد جنایتهای سوریه مینویسم، این قدر شما رو زجر نمیده و شاکی نمیشوید؟
