The sister of blogger Hossein Derakhshan, whose 19.5-year prison sentence was confirmed last week by an appeals court in Iran, has reacted on “Justice For Hossein Derakhshan,” the blog which the family launched last year.
The sentence against the 36-year-old Derakhshan, who blogged under the name Hoder, is one of the longest prison terms given to a blogger in the Islamic republic.
Derakhshan played a key part in helping to popularize blogging in Iran. He was convicted over a 2006 visit to Israel and his writings. Charges against him included working with hostile governments, propaganda against the state, and insulting religious sanctities.
Understandably, the family appears to be in shock:
How will Hossein Derakhshan and the thousands of other Iranian prisoners be rescued? Hossein Derakhshan in his neivety believed that you can adopt a Gandgi-like approach and that members of the Islamic Republic can be reasoned with. Unfortunately, Derakhshan has become the guinea pig in his own experiment. He and his family have now realised what millions of Iranians who have been executed and tortured have long believed: The Islamic Republic is a terrorist evil monster that kills for the hell of it!
The only think which can save Derakhshan and 'rescue' the hundreds of Iranians languishing in prison is the stealth approach .
