OMG - they got Fred!
by MM on Sun Jun 19, 2011 09:25 AM PDTOr, is it Fard? ooops, someone else noted it too. sorry.
I agree with Shifteh - a moritarium on capital punishment in Iran is long overdue. Just too many sham/mock trials to count.
capital punishment
by azadi5 on Sun Jun 19, 2011 08:42 AM PDTLet's assume that this man, who was executed, actually committed the crime he was accused of (in Iran, the judicial system is corrupt as you know and charges can be easily fabricated), however, Can you imagine a grown man raping an 8 year girl? Do you realize that her life is pretty much ruined at that age, not to mention her parents' lives? Yes, death penalty is the right punishment for that rapist, and all other rapists in Iran who rape boys and girls in prisons.
in Canada, there is no capital punishment, but every once in a while a case becomes publicized which makes me wish there was a capital punishment in the system. Usually these are cases when grown ups kidnap, rape, and murder a child. I see absolutely no worth in keeping an animal, who commits such a crime, alive. They usually get a life sentence, and our tax money is used to keep this animal alive while in prison.
so..... does that
by mahmoudg on Sat Jun 18, 2011 11:09 AM PDTmean we can hang Mohammad posthumasely? He raped a 9 year old girl.................
Someone has to fix these Farsi alphabets
by پندارنیک on Sat Jun 18, 2011 11:00 AM PDT...For a nano second I thought that our own Fred was arrested!...Can be an early sign of Alzheimer's too!
Now, let's get serious...........Regardless of the quality of the judicial system, I'm against Capital punishment as well. Period.
But before you and I promise anything to our beloved nation of more than 70 m, where a bestseller book can hardly sell 15000, we have to understand the reality on the ground, and limitations of our democratic ideals.
In my humble opinion, the late Shah failed with such historical proportion simply because his gestures overrode his judgements.
This was wrong, too
by Shifteh Ansari on Sat Jun 18, 2011 10:16 AM PDTCapital punishment should be abolished, even for heinous crimes. The state should never be put in the position of taking its own citizens' lives. The death penalty is irreversible, so if it is later discovered that there were mistakes in issuing this sentence, the sentence cannot be "revoked."
Prisons should be reserved for criminals who have committed heinous crimes, not for people who write bad checks or write or say something the government does not like, as is common in Iran.
When the Islamic Republic's leaders are tried for their crimes for humanity, I believe they, too, should be imprisoned, not hanged.
Any justice system that implements ANY sentence after only three days is suspect in my book. And to carry out an irreversible sentence such as the death penalty in such a short time is even more appalling.
Pendar Nik, the reason I am most particularly against capital punishment in Iran is that the Iranian justice system is one of the most corrupt, twisted, and unfair justice systems in the world. Their judges are uneducated mullahs and their laws are laws written 1400 years ago. Security and intelligence organizations determine political prisoners' sentences and use inhumane and illegal methods for extracting confessions from prisons through torture, intimidation, and threatening their families.
Under such circumstances, this judicial system must not be allowed to take anyone's life.
