According to a recent
Sixty-one percent of the respondents to the poll, which surveyed
1,000 people from across Egypt, believed that “Egypt should focus on
expanding its relations with the US.”
Moreover, only 25 percent of the participants felt that the Muslim Brotherhood will be a 'reliable' group in post-Mubarak Egypt.
Nearly 40 percent said the group is 'unreliable' while 36 percent said they were unknowledgeable of the group's reliability.
Relations between Israel and Egypt have been tense since a popular
revolution swept former dictator Hosni Mubarak from power in February.
In April, the Mubarak-era petroleum minister, Sameh Fahmi, and some
other ministry officials were placed on trial for selling natural gas to
Israel at a lower-than-market price.
Under the US-backed Mubarak regime, Egypt consistently served Tel Aviv's interests in the region.
