A longtime CIA officer who spent 21 years in the Middle East is predicting that Israel will bomb Iran this fall, dragging the United States into another major war and endangering U.S. military and civilian personnel (and other interests) throughout the Middle East and beyond.
Robert Baer made his prediction on the provocative KPFK Los Angeles show Background Briefing, hosted by Ian Masters.
Baer has had a storied career, including a stint in Iraq in the 1990s where he organized opposition to Saddam Hussein. (He was recalled after being accused of trying to organize Saddam's assassination). Upon his retirement, he received a top decoration for meritorious service. Incidentally, George Clooney won an Oscar for playing a character based on Baer in the film Syriana (Baer also wrote the book).
Baer didn't name sources for his prediction of an Israeli attack, but the few he did cite are all Israeli security figures who have publically warned that Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are hell-bent on war.
Baer is especially impressed by the unprecedented warning about Netanyahu's plans by former Mossad chief, Meir Dagan. Dagan left the Israeli intelligence agency in September 2010 and two months ago predicted that Israel would attack and that doing so would be "the stupidest thing" he could imagine. According to Haaretz:

by Roozbeh_Gilani on Sat Jul 16, 2011 11:22 AM PDTIn the unlikely event of an Israel attack on Islamist regime's nuclear sites, the regime would use hezbullah/hamas gangs rather a direct conflict with israel. They know darn well that Israel would only launch such attack with US permission , and a direct attack on Israel would drag US military into this conflict and that US military is somehow more superior than Saddam's, let alone the severe shortage of young Iranians this time, prepared to walk on the minefields to save this most despised regime's rear end , rather than defend Iran.....

Here We Go Again!
by Faramarz on Sat Jul 16, 2011 10:48 AM PDTAnother September, another threat and another panic button being pushed!
Although Baer is a credible source, but I think that he is being dragged into the internal fight between Dagan and Bibi over the peace process and, this September the Palestinians are supposedly going before the General Assembly and asking for Statehood recognition. So effectively Dagan (the former head of Mossad) is saying that Bibi will do something crazy to draw attention away from the UN vote.
Just like Ahmadi, Bibi will not hesitate to make veiled threats about attacks. But even if Israelis do attack Natanz which is highly unlikely and will not accomplish anything, the IR Regime will not dare attacking any other place in the Region to drag US into this. They will just shoot a few missiles in the general direction of Israel and make some claims on Press TV and then back to business as usual.
Wow, a possibility.
