The projections show a substantial growth in the exports from Iran. The software export includes onsite software development, offshore software development, consultancy services, as well as software implementation services. But the projections could rise even higher, say designers and producers, if the provisions of laws are complied.
Iran exports around $100 million dollars worth of software each year, which is still too little compared to the value of international trade at around $800 billion.
Iran exports its software products to Uzbekistan, Zimbabwe, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, Germany, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Tajikistan and Malaysia.
Iran is among the first countries that have had a growth rate of over 20 percent in software industry and the highest level of development in telecommunication. By the end of 2010, Iran had the region's fourth-largest digital market at $9.2 billion, expected to top $13 billion by 2014.
There are also plans for a technology park on Kish Island in the Persian Gulf, which has the necessary technological infrastructure. The government is also promoting foreign investment, although some links are being developed with the Indian industry.
Iran is manufacturing some computer components as well, mainly motherboards and monitors. Other components manufactured locally include keyboard, mouse, computer case, power supply, CPU, hard drive and printers.
