Iranian women’s poomsae team won silver medal in 26th world Universiade in Shenzhen, China on Friday.
Taekwondo poomsae is a combination of basic actions and movements exercised with an imaginary opponent.
Iran and China were leveled on 59.8 points but because of better presentation Iran won the second spot.
South Korea claimed the Gold medal with 65.8 point; joint third place went to China and Vietnam.
Mahsa Mardani, who won two silver medals for Iran, says he is very happy with the result.
“I’m very happy that we won the silver medal. We finished higher than great teams like China and Vietnam. We deserved that,” she said.
More than 13,000 athletes from about 150 countries will compete in 24 sports in the 26th world student games, also known as the 2011 Summer Universiade, from August 13 to 23.

Training to become the next Fati Commando!

by Simorgh5555 on

If I were in the crowd watching this I would want to give a standing ovation but as soon as I see the athlete wearing the ugly hijab and standing behind that horrible flag I get depressed. I feel a great deal of ambivalence. I realise the athletes, especially women, are forced to wear Islamic clothing and hoist that ugly insulting flag but at the same time I do not want my endorsement as them as individuals to be seen as a propaganda victory for the IR Terror Regime.

I feel very uneasy about this picture. The whole hijab reminds me of a Fati Commando in the street but maybe the athlete feels just as uncomfortable as I do.

How do others react to such news?
