TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian defense ministry, in a statement on the occasion of the national Defense Industry Day, stressed that the country has the capability to produce and export different advanced and hi-tech weaponries to the other world states.
"The export of advanced equipment and systems to the other world countries and consequently the establishment and reinvigoration of the country's deterrent power are the results of complete subordination and obedience of the defense industries personnel to the Commander-in-Chief (Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) and the efforts and devotion of unknown soldiers in this field," the statement read on Sunday.
The defense ministry further reiterated its readiness to continue the path of progress in producing different types of advanced weapons and systems in future.
Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.
Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.
