American hikers' saga shows the reason Iran gets no respect

Iran’s ruling theocrats complain that their regime, which they say is the inheritor of Persian history and culture, doesn’t get the respect they believe it deserves. It’s true enough they don’t get much respect, and over the weekend this corrupt and arbitrary government gave the world another reason why that’s so.

After more than two years in confinement and only the briefest contact with their lawyer, 29-year-old Americans Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal, after a quick, closed-door trial were convicted of espionage and illegal border crossing and sentenced to eight years in prison.

no respect

Any regime that can make North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il look reasonable and compassionate has much deeper problems than a simple lack of respect.

Bavafa

It has become fashionable to condemn any thing Iran does

by Bavafa on

The fact of the matter is that hardly any of us know the details of this case and condemning or condoning this sentence or calling it "hostage taking" is rather foolish and a reflective of our own credibility.

In addition to these people, we know that US has some Iranians citizen in their jails without any charges or trail. If we are to avoid and aim in staying clear of hypocritical way of approaching things, we ought to condemn all acts of "hostage taking" by both sides and campaign to free those who have unjustly and for a political game been stripped from their personal freedom.

On the other hand, there isn't any shortage of legitimate reason to condemn IRI, particularly when it comes to dealing and treating its own citizens. Make your criticism credible otherwise it will reflect on those cases that are legitimate and just.

So "boosboos", basically you can not produce any evidence

by Roozbeh_Gilani on

to back your claim of being a "lawyer", apart from quoting a latin phrase from internet!

i.e. you were lying about being a "lawyer' and you are caught.

So looks like Dr Kazemzaadeh, was  quite right at least about you in his otherwise a satire of a blog, and that is why you got so upset.

you are right on one thing and one thing only:

I am taking a few days off! Why do you think I am posting here all day long. But thanks for the advise I will take it into consideration.

You again misunderstand me. I already said if it was up to me I would let them go. Why don't you read my posts fully before replying? When did I say "I" want to exchange them for anyone? "I" said I would fine them 200$ and send them to UK or some other place.

You need to take a few days off, seriously!
You are definitely over-sharing.

A few days ago, you agreed that these guys were not spies but rather stupid to venture so close to the Iranian border and should be let go with a small fine.

Now, you are reading them their Miranda rights and want to swap them with IR criminals like the Soviet-era spies.

Time to go t the beach my friend and chill!

Further tarnishing the image of Iran and it's people, due to no fault of their own

When you got **** all over you it is hard to get further tarnished! The hostage takers did that 32 years ago my friend! Now that was a real instance of hostage taking. We are way past tarnish.

On the other hand the Green movement has restored our image. Most people familiar with Iran know IRI does not represent Iranians. Those not familiar with Iran do not know or give a **** about this anyway.

Thanks for response. Couple of points:

1) IRI does not represent Iranian nation. These hickers were arrested by IRI not by Iranian nation, yet the Iranian nation will have to bear the consequences. Similar to the shameful act of US embassy hostage taking. This is an ongoing trend where Iraninas have to pay for the criminal foreign policy acts of this terrorist state. We need to condemn these acts with no reservation.

2) IRI would would never dare sgooting these hickers because they are sh*t scared of the consequences and rightly so.

Otherwise I agree with everything you say.

Cheers

Dear RG

I want to be clear I am not defending IRI but the right of Iran as a nation.

A nation has a right to handle illegal intrusion of its borders. Do you know in America people regularly get shot for trespassing! I am not kidding read this:

//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoshihiro_Hattori#Fat...

In the Soviet days people regularly got shot running the Berlin wall. In reality IRI has been pretty lenient given what they could have done. They could have just shot them right on sight!

Now if it was me I would let them go. With a small fine. I have said the IRI policy is unwise. But then it is not their only unwise policy. They are not a whole lot nicer to Iranian people now are they? But legally Iran has every right to deal with them as it wishes. They had been warned by the: State Department; Iraqi Government and Iraqi in the hotel. They chose to ignore all of that. Why do you guys make such a big deal about this? Worry about Iranians!

While IRI is a terrorist state Iran does have rights. Never mix the two. Iranian borders are sacred and will always be so.

Well, Dr. Kazemzaadeh's credentials are not in question here.

How about yourself "boosboos"? In the angry exchange with Dr. Kazemzaadeh you claimed to have a "law degree".

Now which law school did you attend, and what kind of a "lawyer" are you to be on internet almost 24/7?

waiting for your response....
