borjbejanbaran:
by Rosie T. on Tue Dec 18, 2007 08:09 PM PSTno, bunny-cake, sorry to differ, ALL including Persian etymological children of PIE (Proto-Indoeuropean), the lost Mother Tongue, Zaban-e-madar, Child of the Eurasian Steppe and her chariots, driving the Fathers to Europe, Iraan and India those five thousand years ago.
And here we all are again in Shoetown, Cyberspace...just like a Star Trek "borg."
Borj
by Bejan Baran (not verified) on Tue Dec 18, 2007 07:49 PM PSTJJ bon voyage- burg German, bourgh Russian, Burk English, Bourgeoisie French, .. all are etymologically derived from Persian Borj. Safe return.
Also to Goldust, friend of flowers and powder of gold
by Rosie T. on Tue Dec 18, 2007 03:49 PM PSTAnd if I may be so bold as to note, anyone thinking of HITCHHIKING from Amsterdam to Nice for lack of funds and having to accept a donation from a friend to pay for an Internet connection in his hotel is hardly on anyone's payroll. As my inner city remedial writing students at City University of New York would say, "Du-uh." Loosely translated, it means, "Are you kidding?" And in the context of this particular thread, I would add, don't you people read? Aren't you interested in the complexity of the reality of the human beings here on this website? Behind these black markings on a white screen, and behind these images, every single one of us is a human....not an IDEA....not a SECRET AGENT of some abstract idea... "What a piece of work is man! how noble in reason! how infinite in faculty! in form and moving how express and admirable! in action how like an angel! in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world, the paragon of animals! And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?" (Hamlet's speech in the graveyard, William Shakespeare)

Bringing democracy?
by Jahanshah Javid on Tue Dec 18, 2007 02:41 PM PSTGoldust Khan,
Nobody needs to ask me to work for democracy. I work for it every day. I don't need money from the U.S. or any other government or organization to do so.

by Jahanshah Javid on Mon Dec 17, 2007 01:39 PM PSTThanks Khodadad. My German sucks more than I thought :O))
Smarties!!!........:-)
by Niki Tehranchi on Mon Dec 17, 2007 01:08 PM PSTI hadn't heard that in such a long time. Yum yum, I loved them and they tasted WAY better than M&Ms. Or maybe I am just romanticizing everything that happened in childhood. Then again, don't we all?
Safar-e Khoshee daashteh baash and come back safe and sound and refreshed. (And please no more ideas about moving to Berlin, if you turn iranian.com into a German language magazine, I have to brush up on my high school German too and like you, I don't remember much!)
It is true...
by Rosie T. on Mon Dec 17, 2007 11:25 AM PST"Berg" means mountain but "Burg" means either "castle", or "town" as a suffix (Hamburg, Freiburg, many more...). It is related to "burgher, bourgeois" (of the town), and also "borough." So JJ gets a C for close enough.
NOW, GO FORTH AND BE FRUITFUL! STEAL CHRISTMAS FROM HOOBURG AND SHOEBURG BOTH!
Schuh Berg
by Khodadad Rezakhani on Mon Dec 17, 2007 11:02 AM PSTJJ jaan, berg means mountain. Schuh-berg: shoe mountain/hill.
Is that front photo
by Rosie T. on Mon Dec 17, 2007 08:40 AM PSTa picture of you with your teacher, Swami Grinch? You look like the cat who swallowed the canary. Maybe you just stole Christmas from Hooville...? or Berlin? :D
JJ try Hashish in Amsterdam.
by Hashish (not verified) on Mon Dec 17, 2007 06:49 AM PSTJJ try Hashish in Amsterdam. You said the menu has names, but you can ask them if they have Hashish and not Marijuana. Try Hashish first and let us know how it is! Not sure how they smoke it now but back in 70s you'd put a little bit on a needle and then lit it and keep it under a glass smoking. Once the smoke filled the glass, you'd lift the glass slightly and then suck the smoke out. I'm sure there are other 'chic' and 'modern' ways too. Just try both Hash and Marij and let us know!
