It's too bad
by Kaveh Nouraee on Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:12 AM PSTthat there can only be one winner.
Each nominee has their specific strengths that makes them stand out, but for different reasons.
Maybe next year there could be winners in specific categories, similar to the Nobel prizes. One for medicine, one for peace, etc.
What could it hurt? After all, this is really nothing more than a symbolic gesture, right?
Pahlevan, the majority of 23 million Iranians

vote for Hoder
by Q on Sat Jan 24, 2009 01:48 AM PSTThis is a vote that could possibly make a difference for Hossein Derakhshan. Ebadi already has a Nobel prize. But an online community vote for hoder will be the most effective thing this vote could accomplish.
Samsam, a wise man once said "Those who live in the past, die in the past."
Just some food for thought for you.

by Souri on Fri Jan 23, 2009 01:46 PM PSTNow, that's something :O)) I could never believe that someone here, think about me in this way. What a nice complement. Thank you.
Sure, I don't deserve all this good attention. Here, of course we talk about the Iranian who did something really good and important for the country. I'd love to do something very positive for my people, but unfortunately I am not at that level yet !!
Although, I think honestly that I'm a better singer than Naamjoo ;P)
Mee too, I vote for ahmadinejad! :o)
by T.h.e.P.o.p.e (not verified) on Fri Jan 23, 2009 01:44 PM PSTHe deserves it more than anyone else to be the 2008 Iranian of the Year!!! Everybody VOTE for him.

Democracy redefined?
by IRANdokht on Fri Jan 23, 2009 10:33 AM PSTDear Ladan
Isn't that the whole point?! there is a list of people and you can vote for the one you think should be the Iranian of the year.
Criticizing the options and laughing about this one or the other getting votes, is just absurd!
What you're suggesting is exactly what Vali-e fagheeh does with the list of candidates before the election! he takes out the ones he doesn't approve of. Doesn't he?
Personally I don't think Namjoo or Golshifteh did anything for me and I don't think being arrested qualifies you as an activist either, but people are voting for them and I respect that. Maybe everyone doesn't feel like the Iranian of the year should be an activist. Everybody is entitled to their opinion.

I vote for Ahmadinejad
by Jaleho on Fri Jan 23, 2009 10:41 AM PSTbecause Ahmadinejad
--Stood tall and strong for Iran's right to nuclear technology. His insistence on honest and transparent policy with the US helped prevent any secret deal that could betray Iran's long term interests. At the same time, his tough and determined stance against US, and his policy in Iraq, helped thwart an attack on Iran by the US, despite the determined neo-conservative plan to do so.
--Ordered the arrest of British sailors when they illegally entered the Iranian waters. Ahmadinejad nullified the British plan to redefine the Iran-Iraq water border when they claimed part of Iranian water as that of Iraq's. He stood tough and non-yielding on Iran's territorial right, when many were cowered from British scare tactics. He proved again that he is cognizant of Iran's real strength, and its enemies weakness and bluffs, extremely well.
--Started the "International Conference to Review the Global Vision of Holocaust," breaking a long held taboo. This led to freedom of some researchers, and initiated more global debate on the subject, the research of which was banned in European countries . The ensuing counter conference in Berlin on the subject was quite good also.
--He also broke the taboo of looking critically at the State of Israel, and the Zionist goals and tactics, making it a viable subject for open discussion. This helped break many well-established myths about Israel and Zionism around the world.
--Ahmadinejad led an extremely moral foreign policy regarding the US invasion of Iraq, US invasion of Afghanistan, Israeli invasion of Lebanon, and the savage assault of Israel in Gaza. In each case, Iran proved to be a leader with the best moral compass, both regarding the strong political stance it chose against the invasions, and also the sizable humanitarian help it offered the victims of the assault in all these cases.
--Ahmadinejad continued to be very sensitive to the concern of the most deprived Iranians. He continued his promised first hand visist and personal attention to the most remote villages in Iran despite assassination attempts against him.
--His intelligent and detailed interviews with the types of Charlie Rose also helps define Iran and Iranians for the smart and moral people they are, not the savages that the western media has been trying to portray them for 30 years.
--His official red carpet visit to Iraq, going with a car in the most dangerous ride from airpot in Iraq, a road that no other head of state used out of fear , and that coming from the leader of a country which had an 8 year war with Iraq, was a monumental statement of bravery, almost like claiming Iraq! It was a calculated courageous act to contrast Bush's cowardly and heavily guarded hilcopter rides to un-announced location out of fear. It did register as such in the world :-)
2008 Iranian of the year
by The greatest (not verified) on Fri Jan 23, 2009 10:19 AM PSTMy vote is the same as it has & will always be: Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh
I have good reason ..
by Souri on Fri Jan 23, 2009 10:04 AM PSTfor having said what I'd said.....but doesn't matter anymore. I'm done with this election, it's absurd.
hmmm
by IRANdokht on Fri Jan 23, 2009 09:42 AM PSTDear Souri
When a user votes once the poll changes into results and they're not allowed to vote again, only seeing the results.
Apparently out of the 21 new people 3 of them voted for SCE but I still fail to see all the humor in it. Maybe it's me...

HERE IS THE RATIONAL POLL; VOTE HERE
by Ladan Farhangi on Fri Jan 23, 2009 08:00 AM PSTYour list is absurd. I agree with Souri. What Golshiifteh or Namjoo did last year for the Iranians ? what is your masure ? What that means ?
The rational poll (Top 10) to select the choices for the most important/significant Iranian(s) of the past year may read as follows:
1-- Arash and Kamyar Alaei, detained AIDS doctors 2-- Ahmad Batebi, former prisoner of conscience 3-- Guive MirFendereski, Lawyer 4-- Hossein Derakhshan, detained blogger 5-- Shirin Ebadi, rights activist 6-- Simin Behbahani, Poet 7-- Manouchehr Saadat Noury, Poet 8-- One Million Signatures Campaign, women's rights activists 9-- Stop Child Executions campaign 10-- Students who have demanded freedom and democracy in public rallies at numerous universitiesHow do you vote ? Where ?
by Souri on Fri Jan 23, 2009 06:11 AM PSTWhere is the link for vote ? I can't click on the table above. where is the
selection list ?
vote for student activists
by Setareh Sabety on Fri Jan 23, 2009 12:17 AM PSTthey are the ones that show the kind of courage the rest of us lack. they call the government illegitimate and Ahmadinejad a dictator right there in the university campuses of Iran. They stand up unmasked in plain view and risk their futures if not their persons in the way of truth and freedom. things that many of us, even from far away, are afraid of doing without the use of an anonymous name as shield. they are they ones whose names we don't even know and therefore need recognition. they are our future our only hope!!!
