Dear Hajiaha,

i am a musician. i came to Canada in 2000. I had good a income in iran and i was relatively well known back home. when i cam here i didn't have any money and nobody knew me. worst of all is after seeing the level of musicianship of musicians half my age who grew up in canada, i realized that i am not as good as i thought i was. i needed to upgrade my skills and my english so i went to school for 4 years.
7 years has past since then. i am not a super successful musician by any means but i am on my way. i keep my hopes and my dreams. last month i had a sold out concert in front of 700 people and i was offered to go on a canadian tour. don’t get me wrong, i am still struggling! i have to work in an unrelated shitty job for 40 hours a week just to pay for food and rent! i am in debt up to my neck for my student loan and there are still thousands of musicians much younger and much better than me right here in canada. Now, I know you have been in much worst situations like being homeless and all. i am not in your shoes so i cant pass any judgment on you but let me tell you this, as a humble fellow iranian who likes to help, DUDE, YOU REALY HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR ATTITUDE! that's your main problem. I have dark skin and quite frankly, i have seen much more discrimination and racism back in iran, compared to here in canada. so let me cut this crap short and tell you what i think about you. it is up to you to think about my advice or just though it out of the window:

1- change your attitude, try to be positive. don’t see everything in black and white and DONT BE A VICTIM. there are hundreds of thousands of successful iranians and other ethnic minorities in canada and there are also hundreds of thousands of white losers and junkies here! It's really not racism, it's the attitude.
2- improve your English. Seriously dude! you cant expect to get funding from canada arts council if you write or speak like this. at least get someone else write your proposal and resume. you should check out canadian immigrant and refugee services for free english classes
3- upgrade your skill and technique as an artist. there is always something to learn and if you think you are so good and people do not understand your art, there should be something seriously wrong with your ego. i don’t think even Picasso or Beethoven thought that they are so good.
4-Get a day job and do your art at nights JUST BECAUSE YOU LOVE PAINTING AND DRAWING, NOT BECAUSE YOU WANT MONEY AND RECOGNITION.
5-If you change your attitude, you might find a woman who can love you and comfort you.
6-If none of the above appeal to you, GET THE HELL OUT OF CANADA AND GO BACK TO IRAN BEFORE YOU ROTT HERE! ask for some money for a plain ticket now! I'm sure if you ask from the iranian community politely, somebody will give it to you. WHAT EVER YOU DO IN IRAN WOULD BE MUCH BETTER THAN BEINIG BITTER AND HOMELESS! get your life and scape now!

Haji, I understand that you thought you can leave Iran to promote human rights outside Iran, because freedom of speech was not available in Iran. I also understand that you are sorry now and regret ever coming here. Don't worry about bad English, we understand you, women like bad English and Borat made millions of dollars with bad English! Now let me tell you this. At the same time you moved to Canada and years before that, there were many Iranians in USA and Canada that didn't like living here anymore, many like you were disappointed and went back to Iran to live there now that there was a revolution and a new Government. When you were in Iran did you meet any of these people from America? Many of them ended up in jail, some of them died in jails and many of them ended up doing deadend jobs like selling junk on the street and became homeless. So you see it doesn't matter if you leave Iran to live in Canada or leave Canada to live in Iran. It's a dream and fantasy. Once you wake up and try living in reality, you see that it is hard. So if you want to lead a good life you can lead it anywhere. They give you this life just once, use it, rent a table at a Fair, sell your art and be happy. I saw your website, neither I nor many of the readers on Iranian.com can afford to buy your $2000 or $3000 art work. You have to find rich people for that, ever heard of 'starving artists'? You should be proud if you are a starving artist.

Hajiagha, there are plenty of non-white immigrants who've made it very big in Canada. It is not the skin of your color man, it is the drive, passion, and initiative that sets people apart. If you want something you go get it, not giving up the first time somebody says NO and then being pissed off at the whole world about it. You want to make it in a country, the first thing is to be able to communicate to others. Your English is not good, and this is after 10 years of being in Canada, which means you never tried to improve it and this has nothing to do with racism and opportunities. You attitude is very poor. You manage to offend your fellow Iranians over and over again - just look at the comments you're getting, man. Are we racist too? I know people from all around the world with all kinds of skin colors who came here and slowly worked their way up to their dream. Some of them are even less talented than an average person, but they had the drive and tenacity to go for it, and take responsibility for their lives. Bitching, and being bitter, and name-calling is not going to get you anywhere. It is just going to alienate you more and more.

There have been some good comments sent to you via this site, but you seem to ignore those advices and keep talking the same thing as before. It seems like nobody can get to you, or through you. That's because you're very close minded. You are not open to advice. You're bitter and you want somebody to hold your hand while you complain. Well I have news for you. The world doesn't work like that. With this attitude of yours you won't be successful anywhere, be it Canada, Iran, or anywhere else. You are your biggest enemy.

Without naming names, my husband posts comments to this guy all the time. I have to add my 2 cents worth because I've been reading a little bit myself. I've actually gone to his website and while his English isn't MUCH better there, he definitely has a better command of the language than is evidenced by his blogs. I really wish people would try to have abit of empathy around here. It is obvious that you are lonely and increasingly disenchanted,isolated from world around you. Canada doesn't owe you anything but the Iranian Community there and elsewhere has failed you and immigrants like you who need assistance when they first get here. It is sad but a reality that you must accept in order to make it here. You have talent,try to use in a positive way, depicting the beauty of little things in life that bring smile to your face. Work hard,accept but do not expect help, curb the bitterness and work on forgiveness,use your art to convey a message rather than to demonize an entire class of people, make new connections with people You may be surprised to find out not all iranian girls "dar khar az keshvar" are "faheshe" or "hamjenzbaz", you may even find a companion... the possibilities are there Haji jan,you are not alone with your experiences. Everyone has had to endure rough times here except that some are better in hiding their pain that others... Good luck to you!
