Iranian female rugby players practice during a training session in Tehran's Azadi Stadium, 21 October 2007. Rugby and women may not seem an ideal combination in Islamic Iran but girls are taking to one of the toughest sports with enthusiasm, amid greater official encouragement for them to participate in physical activities.(AFP/File/Atta Kenare)>>>Middle East Online

Wondering!
by IraniValiAzad (not verified) on Tue Nov 06, 2007 05:54 AM PSTI wonder why Islamic government doesn’t allow peaceful gathering of women during “roze zan”, and yet they allow a very few women to participate in sports that are not indigenous to the area such as Rugby, golf, etc. Is this to provide/create photo opportunities for western media to say, “we let our women to do anything they want to do, even if it is playing rugby”.
Keep in mind that, with most sports, the participants are drawn to the game from early age where kids play “football”, catch, etc. in schools, streets, yards with their peers. Where in Iran do you see young girls play rugby, football, volleyball, etc.? where are the facilities? Don’t fall for yet another akhonds’ propaganda … Moslem akhonds will never bring anything positive to lives of their “subjects”.

by Faribors Maleknasri M.D. (not verified) on Tue Nov 06, 2007 02:34 AM PSTsure, every woman needs a Husband and every Man needs a wife. Both must be of course of best kind the "Marterial". However Rugby is not a typical iranian not even a iranian kind of sport. the reason is: rugby is inhuman. During the "game" are some Situations diveloped, where no refery can control the fouls. and the brutals do hurt the players of the other side and: there is no Possibility for controlling the ones who act brutaly and hurt other players. these situation build the fundaments of the this brutal and inhuman kind of sport. You may ask: typical american manner? I give no comment on these kind of questions. so is rugby no iranian sport. But thanks to democratic general conditions in Iran, every body is free to do what she/he wants unless is the freedom of others limited by the action. By rugby is the right of physical integrity of the players taken away. But they play conciensly on their own responbility. Greeting
Dameshoon Garm!
by Kamangir on Mon Nov 05, 2007 09:00 PM PSTI feel proud of these ladies. One day, you'll be able to practice all the sports you like, without the damn hijab or any islamic attire.
Keep up the good work!
