Abjeez

Documentary about rocking sisters

Here is a teaser from a documentary called "Sisters" that a Swedish journalist is making about Abjeez. It's from our live performance in Rotterdam Film Festival, where two of our music videos were shown a numerous times during the festival. Abjeez and Mohsen Namjoo were both invited and very well received by a warm Dutch audience. This was in February 2007.

The Abjeez are not only

by beyondpersia on

The Abjeez are not only incredible musicians (all band members are almost overeducated with formal degrees in music unlike any other Iranian band) but as individuals they are top of the proverbial food chain.  Both sisters, and each non-Iranian band member are some of the nicest, most polite, and most enlightened human beings anyone could hope to know.

Working with them is a pleasure that we will never take for granted.  And their sound and the philosophy is in keeping with ours at Beyond Persia, which is to celebrate the fusion of cultures.

For those of you who think that the lyrics are childish, I say, so what? While they do have many other songs with poignant and soico political messaging, EVERYTHING doesn't have to be deep and meaningful does it? It's just a song!  Enjoy it :)

We have been planning to bring them to 12 cities in the US this Spring for about a year, as we truly believe they can help put a dent in the image problem we face collectively.
Peace.

They are great and refreshing. I like them the first time I saw them in Europe.
and then here in SF.
I think we should support them and all new comers Like Kiosk and Hamed Nikpay.
Buy their CD'S, If it moves you and make you feel better.

I actually like them!

by Samira (not verified) on

Perhaps their music is too fresh to our brainwash irooni ears? I mean how many of the worlds most celebrated artist was accepted right away by the people of their time?
I guess we just have to wait and see. Time will for sure unveil the truth.

ambivalent

It is fantastic to see the Iranian music scene being evolved, various styles being played, and it is great to see musicians playing instruments and well as singing. However, theoretically, I don't see any originality in their work, which basically consists of certain genres, such as reggae, rock, latin, etc, sung in Persian lyrics. Perhaps it takes time for some of these styles to mature and morph into something unique, like Persian pop has over the decades, but for now, it just doesn't grab me.

What can I say

by Kaveh F on

I also have a mix feeling. From one side I like to wish my fellow countrywomen well. But on the other hand the vocals are mediocre at best and lyrics are how should I put it …………… Tokhmi for the lack of better expressive word in English.

I am, to be honest, not

by zahra S. Sharon (not verified) on

I am, to be honest, not quite sure what to make of this one. Iranian girls with Arabic "childish" lyrics-as someone mentions in the previous comments, a Scottish Drummer, and a "Swedish" Flamenco guitar player, Johan Moberg (whom we actually admire)not to mention a Chilean percussionist, seem to have found a uniquely odd collaborative place, one that often borders on the Buena Vista social club but just as often finds a smooth, incessant Bob Marley groove. It never quite explodes, but in its own gentle way it does probe. Best 2008 wishes to this attractive band. Spensia-from Max.

Any Plans to Tour FRANCE ? ;0)

by Darius Kadivar on

I think you would draw French Fans given the Hit of Marjane Satrapi's Hit in France. The French are very much curious about all things Iranian lately. Maybe it would be good for you to give it a try.
