Why Chess is forbidden in Islam

According to Sunni historians and hadiths:

Salman the Persian came to the Prophet with a chess board and chess pieces and explained the game of chess.

The prophet explained this game's object is murder of opponents. Such an act of violence is prohibited by Islam, which means peace. The rules to the game of chess were compared to doing the ritual of washing (Voozoo) for Muslim prayers with pigs blood, which is Islamicly dirty (nejes). Hence, chess is forbidden.

In classical Islam, prior to the Caliphate of Abu Bakr, Umar and Osthman wars in Islam only existed if Muslims were attacked. Hence the term Jihad, which means resistance.

There are no pre-emptive strikes in classical Islam.

Pre-emptive attacks came during the Caliphate of Umar Khattab, the Prophet Muhammad's father in law.

And Umar Khattab's reign had nothing to do with classical Islam. Umar Khattab was more an Arab nationalist rather than a pan-Islamicist. Umar's treatment of non-arab muslims was unjust. This inequity led to Umar's death at the hands of an Iranian slave named Abu-Lo-Lo-a which translates to father of the pearl.

The question about anal sex has absolutely nothing to do with the one about chess. Bill Maher is the one relating the two in oder to make Ayatollah Sistani and Muslims look foolish and irrational.

As far as I know some clerics (not all) consider playing Chess to be a sin because they see it as "aalateh ghomar" (instrument of gambling). Other clerics don't have any problem with it at all as long as it is not explicitly used for gambleing. Nowadays there are chess tournaments in Iran sponsored by the government.

If you put everything in its context, it doesn't seem so ridiculous as they make it sound.

Here's my take. For some reason anal sex is considered bad. Yet many men love to try it. Maybe BECAUSE it's bad. So what do these men do? They want some kind of approval so they don't feel like they're doing anything anti islamic. This is natural because these men are muslims and look to their leaders for advice. We all look to leaders for advice, but some of us aren't religions and resort to our parents or doctors. So some poor fella wants to try something new and doesn't want to go to hell for it. He asks the clergy. What's wrong with that? In that society, that's who you ask...the corner mollah.

Now the mollah doesn't have much choice, he has to nod and say that anal is ok. Because first of all he does it too and second of all he can't say something that would turn the masses away. It's in mainstream porn and his subjects want to try it. Khob chi bege?

The shaking hand comment is just stupid on Maher's part; that was obviously meant for 2 naa mahrams.

The most important thing is that the advice was very clear on consent.

Either you don't know what you're talking about or you are extremely ignorant about these scholars.

First of all, "resaleh" is not equivalent to a PhD thesis. Resales solely deal with questions of "fegh" and details of every day life. They are not the result of decades of studying to become an Ayatollah.

Secondly, you are free to dislike Aytollah Sistani, Khomeni, Montazeri and other Islamic scholars and disagree with their ideology as much as you like, but if you want to be fair and objective, you can not reduce their knowledge to their so-called "resaleh".

For over 20 years Khomeni taught philosophy and erfaan in Hozeh elmiyeh specializing on Molasadra and Ebne Arabi, which deal with extremely complex and abstract philosophical concepts. He, and many other scholars also have their own Divan-e sher.

But of course, every Iranian has heard about the "resaleh" and its little stories about(and now it seems like Americans are also starting to hear about it) but we would have never seen Mr.Farokhad or Bill Maher talk about Khomeni's works in philosophy and poetry, not even to criticize and refute them!

So, let's try to be more fair and objective in our judgements, even if we don't like the people in question.

I remember paging thru Khomeini's "resaaleh" I came upon this "mas'ale" answered by our very own spritual LEADER :

"Vaty dar dobor-e  zan-e  haa'eze  eshkaal-e  shar'ee  nadaarad"

Lavaat is a derivative of the verb "vaty" in Arabic.

translation:

Anal sex with a woman in her period time is permissable by "shari'e

When it comes from a theologist who should know all the details of his book then it is amazing. Having A***l sex with your wife or anyone for that matter is no less than having homosexual ideation for a man. If it is ok for a women to have anal sex then sets the precedance for everyone to ask for it promote it and sanction it. Well our own Khoemeini has an a lot more "exciting" RESAALEH on sex with camels and your aunt in case of an earthquake (see Farrokhzad's famous clip for details!) and cleaning butthole with finger and the list goes on and on and these disgusiting "scholars" have their own different theories too!!! These opinions on anal sex and sex with animals and etc are forming RESAALEH's. Yes RESAALEHs are not just filled with sexual content there's also a great deal of bullshit about KHOMS and ZAKAT and marrying underage kids; afterall someone has to pay these rats to sit on their asses all day and put together their crap!!! These RESAALEHs are basically just like PhD dissertations except for their only for Islamic scholars (FYI those who think Isalm can be modernized....Khatami to Soroush to Shirin Ebadi, in case your heads are still deep down in snow and your feet up in the air!).

It is not the Q&A by itself that is insulting but the fact that some people would dig into these websites with the sole intention of finding something they can use against Muslims on National Television. And for that, they usually take the material out of its context, use a mocking and outraged tone in their voice when reading them and give it all kinds of twists to make it look ridiculous and absurd (like linking the question about anal sex to that of "Chess"!!). And it is these ill intentions and hate mongering that are insulting.

Otherwise, there was absolutely nothing wrong or outrageous with Ayatollah Sistani's answer to be ridiculed and mocked like that on National Television. He simply said that this sexual practice is not recommended, however if both sexual partners consent to it, then it is ok. Which is a perfectly legitimate answer to a legitimate concern.

People go to their priests, counselors, friends, and all kinds of magazines, websites and forums to get answers from different angles to such questions. I don't know why we should make all this fuss when it comes to Muslims doing the same thing!!
