This one is only marginally related to Iran, but in an interesting way. British woman participates in British Idol (complete with Simon Cowell) program to perform a belly dance. She does her dance to one of Arash's songs. One of the reasons Simon mentions later for her good mark is her choice of music. Watch!:

Belly Dancing and Iranian Culture
by John Carpenter III (not verified) on Mon May 12, 2008 04:12 PM PDTMusic with a singer singing in Farsi...
With a U.K. non-Iranian belly dancing?
Let us see, the 1st Iranian belly dancer I recall was named Jameeleh.
Belly dancing is an Arab tradition. Belly dancers used to dance for the Arabian Caliphs and later the Ottoman Caliphs.
What does belly dancing have to do with Iranian culture? Nothing what so ever.
What does belly dancing have to do with Arab culture?
Sometimes at Arab weddings you may see a belly dancer. In Arab Muslim weddings if a belly dancer is seen the family throwing the wedding is not very religious. In the Arab world belly dancers are sometimes working as prostitutes on the side to earn more money.
Anyhow, the subject of belly dancing is neither here nor there.
It's just not an Iranian tradition and it has nothing to do with proper Iranian culture.
The dancer in the video is ugly. Where is Alabina, the Israeli belly dancer of Jewish Morrocan origin who was an Israeli Airforce pilot?
there's a farsi line
