Golshifteh, an Iranian Actor from the Islamic Republic
by Jamshid Niavarani (not verified) on Wed Oct 15, 2008 09:23 PM PDTShe was born in the Islamic republic.
She carries a passport of the Islamic Republic.
Her countries flag says "Allah Akbar" 22 times for the date of the revolution that ended a monarchial dictatorship.
She wants to return to the Islamic Republic.
She is an Iranian woman that does not wear a veil in public like Shireen Ebadi.
Once upon a time, in Farsi, a secular person was called "Taaghuti".
A "Shahi", a monarchist and a "taghuti" were the same at one point in time.
Today, there are secular Iranians, living in Iran that will tolerate an Islamic Republic.
february 11, 2009 will be the 30th anniversary of the Islamic Republic.
It is safe to say, these secular people who tolerate the theocracy show that the monarchists slogans are no longer relevant in a land of 70 million.
As usual blaming others
by Eliot (not verified) on Sat Oct 11, 2008 02:30 PM PDTAgain we are mixing the apples and oranges.
What does Golshifteh have to do with Rex Cinema? Noone really knows who burned that cinema down. Noone for sure except the guy who started the fire.
what does IRI has to do with being Iranian. One is a current stupid government & one is a land of many. Not my land anymore & that is for sure, but lets be fair. We Iranians are good at making names for people in 2 seconds, calling her khodshifteh; what did she do to be called that? She is not Paris Hilton.
People who mix her acting to the government are not being fair. She didn't start the revolution & she shouldn't be blamed for it either. I met this woman years ago while filming Ali Santori, she is no muslim, she is no molla and she didn't do anything for the government people to get a job. Her father & sister were in the movie biz before her, so what? Please watch her roles in the movies and tell us which one of her roles were about Islam, Iranian goverment supporter or any other butt kissing accusations. If she was all Muslim, she wouldn't be scarf less in NY, wouldn't be grilled by the Iranian intelligency for days and be on trial if she goes back. All of us Iranians are pissed about many things, but don't know who we should take our anger out of; so we jump on anybody's throat even with no logic.
She didn't cause your suffering, take a chill pill and be happy for someone else who has a better life currently than your miserable one. Merry Christmas.
flowers for Golshifteh
by kaykavoos (not verified) on Sat Oct 11, 2008 02:08 PM PDTHello folks,
I would like to send a dozen of flowers to Golshifteh for her acts. Does anyone know her address in France or Iran?
az filmesh khosham omad va khaili ham nazeh.
No praise deserved!
by Truth Seeker (not verified) on Sat Oct 11, 2008 02:14 AM PDTLet us be reminded that there are plenty of talented Iranian actors in LA who never made it in Hollywood because of a reality called "racism & discrimination". Has this IRI actress ever experienced discrimination and racism? As far as her family goes, she didn't have to make too much efforts to convince them either, as they are in IRI cinema themselves.
Aghdashloo was an exception and she had worked with Kiarostami, an IRI filmmaker as well. Just check her page on imdb!
there were plenty of talented and innocent people BURNED ALIVE in Cinema Rex at the beginning of the Islamic Revolution. To your points of view, these victims didnt' deserve to live or make it big anywhere, only Farahani deserve to live a great experience!!!
there's no talent and no hard work needed in dealing with the IRI "to find work". And no praise deserved!
do you know how she got the part? Easy: the awarded IRI actor at Cannes got her the job on this film! It has been proven! Don't want to believe, then go do some research!
Which talent, which effort and suffering are you talking about?
You say her efforts were recognized by the big guys in Hollywood? Oh, please, don't fool yourself and others with that false belief, just because you need to feel proud of Iran.
she is fantastic
by parviz danesh (not verified) on Fri Oct 10, 2008 08:18 PM PDTShe is a great actress and a beautiful persian woman. It does not sound correct when you associating her to wrong (in your mind) group. Just look at yourself, you have been here since 1980s and you have not got any where! But a woman like her has worked very hard (she is very talented) to be where she has been recognized by people in the state. you know, with the tough discipline in Iran (parents and the laws) she has made it. Have you seen her movies? she is 25 years old but talks acts beyond her age. Please applause for her hard work.
Lets be fair & stop judging
by Eliot (not verified) on Fri Oct 10, 2008 01:44 PM PDTIt is no sad that all of us Iranians think that we are so smart and know everything about everything & in reality we "don't know JACK SH*T." The person above who wrote a book & other individuals are saying that she is part of the Iranian Government and so on. It is not her fault that some artists in Iran could work & some couldn't. Wake up & give credit when credit is due. I don't see any of those who are criticizing have a movie role in Hollywood. Stop saying that the movie is weak and not good. See the big picture. An Iranian actor from the Satan Country is in a Hollywood movie along side the Big Boys. THAT IS A BIG DEAL regardless of what some morons say due to jealousy. Be a human being and allow youself to be happy for someone else and be proud of an underdog regardless of where she is from, for reaching beyond your and my goals.
Shame on us Iranians for always being negative and jealous, SHAME.
Reviews are really low!
by lolita (not verified) on Fri Oct 10, 2008 07:52 AM PDTAll reviews rate the film as unsuccessful and the acting pretty terrible!
i totally agree with "amazed
by persianpride (not verified) on Thu Oct 09, 2008 08:35 AM PDTi totally agree with "amazed political activist". this khodshifteh jan is nothing but a mollah doll. go find out how she got the job through the mollah network and then if you're still proud of her, then go back to iran and visist the innocent lives destroyed because they are not within hte mollah network. go get a life before being proud of a mollah doll.
She shows true face of Iranian class!
by Ye Irani (not verified) on Wed Oct 08, 2008 09:41 PM PDTI'm proud of her and how she handles herself. I'm surely proud of her representing Iran - A true classy Irani indeed!!!!!!
Way to go Khanom Golshifteh!

by Amazed political activist (not verified) on Wed Oct 08, 2008 11:15 AM PDT- The reason why i am not signing my name is clearly explained in my first comment (near the end of my comment). How about you fully read and understand the depth of my comment before getting false assumptions on why my real name is not signed here?
Thank you for reading my comment before judging me.
Take care,
Collective reply!
by Amazed political activist (not verified) on Wed Oct 08, 2008 11:02 AM PDTI have read the "defensive" comments in regard to my opinion. I would like to clear some points:
- my second comment was by far an apology. it was the polite and civilized way to ask for a copy of my first comment in case it was not published on this site. Why? Not because i don't believe in freedom of speech here, but because i had used the word "F." and i didn't know if it could have been published.
- your amazing reactions to my opinion proved my case, which can be translated into one proverb: "the truth is bitter".
- I have informations that prove what I wrote and it is indeed amazing that none of my questions were answered in any of your replies. You just tried to insult in a defensive manner.
- "having guts" is everything but shaking hands with IRI to get famous! Oh, no!
- During the Nazi era, innocnets died while some people got rich. Living in Iran is no excuse to shake hand with IRI.
- - A Persian proverb says as well: "The best answer to ignorants remains the silence." Therefore, I am not going to argue with anyone of you individually!
Lots of prayers for the future of Iran.
amazed jan
by IRANdokht on Wed Oct 08, 2008 10:07 AM PDTwere you amazed that both your comments made it? were you afraid that iranian.com would not be tolerant of your ideas? I know a place that wouldn't be but you and your ideas are safe here.
you sounded very strong in your first comment, but then right away sent a second one that sounded so apologetic.
Is this the same caliber of "activism" and resistance that you're expecting from others? you're writing anonymously on a free website! criticizing the people who are living in Iran and faced with REAL censorship, intimidation, arrests, imprisonment and torture. Based on the tone in your second comment you don't seem qualified to criticize anyone.
Be a sport and show support for your hamvatans who are making it against all odds. Some of these guys were born after IRI took reign. They are making it in an atmosphere you wouldn't even dare live in.
Please show some respect for the people who have guts. That's the least you can do.

by farrad02 on Wed Oct 08, 2008 10:19 AM PDTObviously you don't understand what a "comment" is and needs to be. Ostad, comment means a few sentences about the topic, not typing up half a book!!! If you want to treat us to your last Resaleh or book, register an account and present your thoughts as your own original new Blog posts not as a comment to someone else' post.
What's the deal with that Afro?
by farrad02 on Wed Oct 08, 2008 09:46 AM PDTWhat's the deal with her Afro? It doesn't look good on her at all! Plus, she needs to stay away from politics. Because she can't freely say it like it is. So, might as well not say anything!

No matter what - she symbolizes what the great Iranian nation can produce even under Arab/akhoond occupation. I am especialy proud of her ability to speak English with such a great accent.
SHAME ON IRANIANS: my previous comment
by Amazed political activist (not verified) on Wed Oct 08, 2008 02:48 AM PDTPosting my comment few seconds ago, I realized your moderate the comments. In case you don't wish to publish my comment, would you please send me a copy of it to my email? As I thought it would be published, I didn't keep a copy for myself.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely yours,

SHAME ON IRANIANS.
by Amazed political activist! (not verified) on Wed Oct 08, 2008 02:40 AM PDTG. Farahani is sadly another puppet of the Islamic Regime of Iran.
She has never suffered, her family has always collaborated with that oppressing regime in order to live a happy life.
Why anyone writes about the truth:
- 1979: The Islamic Republic of Iran stated that Cinema was "anti-Islamic". Have all of you lost your memory?
- Why no Iranian is wondering what are all these so-called filmmakers doing in Cannes, Oscars, etc...? And, EVERY YEAR!
- Why nobody says: If it is anti-Islamic, then what the hell these collabos are doing in the West or doing movies to begin with?
- Why nobody wonders howcome Makhmalbaf who signed the hanging of Iranian Ballet Dancers and was involved in the Islamic Revolution is treated as a HUMANIST and A FILMMAKER, while 70 million people are oppressed by THE regime that sends this guy to CANNES!!!
- Why nobody wonders: what the hell is this woman doing on a film with A-list actors, when there are many other Iranian actors (true opponents of the regime and exiled for years) who could have get the part?
- How did she get the part when we know the discriminations that ORDINARY AND GOOD Middle Masterns go through in the West, on a daily basis, especially after 9/11?
- What the hell is this "exposure without the Islamic Hijab" which is forced upon INNOCENT Iranian girls in Iran?
- Is it really true she was stopped at the airport? Or was it only a marketing buzz to make her famous?
"We know the answer! Right?"
- Innocent Iranians died in war, in prison, could get stonned to death, could be married by force at age 9; while "collabos of IRI" who have never took a political stand, walk on the red carpet!
- How is it possible that ALL OF YOU IRANIAN EXILED are admiring these IRI puppets?
Are you blind or simply lost your mind?
- Have you forgotten the crimes committed by IRI?
- When I was in LA, I realized that all Iranians call themselves PERSIANS because saying you're IRANIAN get you in a circle of discrimination in the U.S. Am I right?
Then why don't you wonder why these IRANIANS from IRAN are treated with so much respect?
... We know the reason: the reason being that they collaborate with a regime who gives free oil to whomever keeps them in place.
And, the irony is the buzz around her being stopped at the airport by the same people who sent her to work on a Hollywood film along "SATAN" (= Amercians) in an anti-Islamic product (= Cinema)!!!
I declare such lifestyles a crime: to collaborate with an oppressing regime to become "strong & famous, walk on the red carpet or get a Noble Peace Prize"; and then pretend "to be exiled, questionned and harrassed" by the same regime.
And you know the sad part?
The sad part is that you so-called Iranians (excuse-me: PERSIANS) believe all the shit the media tell you instead of looking at the facts and analyse!
All this media buzz around the puppets of IRI is sickening me. Too F. easy, totally unfair, and disrespectful to the true victims of this regime.
SHAME ON ALL THOSE WHO ADMIRE THE IRI CINEMA AND ITS PUPPETS. SHAME ON YOU!
I don't sign my name because I am already blacklisted for having shouted "for the respect of human rights" in Iran. I will not risk my life for a bunch of traitor Iranians (should I say Persians) who admire IRI puppets.
If the country is bombed in the future, the guilt is upon those false-opponents and their fans who discredited the efforts of few true-opponents.
This regime wouldn't be in place so long and get the Iranian people in this big political mess; if there was no Palme d'Or, no Prix du Jury, no Oscar Nomination and roles in films, and no Nobel Prizes.
Why all of you forgot that France (the lead in awarding and hosting fake-opponents) nourished Ayatollah Khomeiny with coffee and croissant before sending him to destroy our lives?
How could you forget?
BODY OF LIES: the title of this film concludes my comment!

by Ayatoilet (not verified) on Tue Oct 07, 2008 01:18 PM PDTShe looks sort of like Rachael in Ridley Scott's Bladerunner, she wa a "replicant" played by Sean Young and was supporting actress alongside Harrison Ford. Scott is probably trying to evoke the same theme.
