This is young Iranian couple, Bazmeh and Kousha's "Proposal Night," which I assume is an engagement or Namzadi party. It starts at a home where they are sent off together somewhere (to dinner?). When they come back to an uncle and aunt's house, guests from both families are waiting for them (is it a surprise? I don't know). One thing is for sure -- in Clip #3, Bazmeh's father who has decided to surprise her shows up from out of town among the guests to delightful results for her. I am so delighted this Aroos Khanoom has shared what many of us would find an invaluable offering. Priceless and important.

Clip 6, Baba, Rebecca, and Rivka are shown briefly, posing for a picture.

Mazal Tov
by Zion on Wed Oct 01, 2008 05:41 PM PDTto the lovely couple. I am also very curious on the Persian-Jewish ceremonies and rituals.
Ma'at and Kaveh,
There is no Hebrew gene really, but your main point is definitely valid. Persia (together with Babylon) has been the first and oldest Jewish diaspora, and given all the long years of life, as well as forced conversions that have taken place, your conclusion is inevitable. Even more so, before the exile of Yehuda that ended with the famous decree of Cyrus the great, Iran was most probably one of the main regions where the other ten tribes of Israel who are considered lost were sent as exiles.

I would love to see a full film on Jewish-Iranian weddings so I can learn about the traditions of this ancient community. Also wondering how similar or different it is from American and Ashkenazi Jewish traditions. But even better maybe one day i will be invited to see a Jewish-Persian wedding.

Lovely to see such joy and lovely to see this sharing from our Jewish compatriots who see through the virulent propaganda of accusations of anti-semitism against their home county and who keep their ties of affection and belonging with their motherland. Wish you long lives together full of love, laughter and hope ... and a honeymoon in Iran perhaps?!

by Kaveh Nouraee on Wed Oct 01, 2008 11:58 AM PDTYou are so very correct.
As I'm sure you know, Talmudic law follows the maternal bloodline to determine if one is considered Jewish.
And with all of these haters who regularly post, I would just LOVE to find out just how Jewish some of these virulently anti-Jewish people really are.
Mazel Tov, to the couple

Individuals of Hebrew Descent in Iran
by Ma'at (not verified) on Wed Oct 01, 2008 08:37 AM PDTMost Iranians would probably be amazed if they knew how many Iranians actually carry Hebrew DNA as a result of the Jewish diaspora in Babylon. If you are reading this message and you are from Iran, the likelihood is fairly high that you have Hebrew ancestry somewhere in your family line.
Jewish IRanians are our Fellow Compatriots
by Darius Kadivar on Wed Oct 01, 2008 02:41 AM PDTI have never made a distinction on this. Ahmadinejad IS NOT Going to Highjack OUR Patriotism in the name of his Anti Semitic and Fascist allegations. So fellow Iranian Jews NEVER FORGET THAT in Our Eyes You are IRANIAN. Pass on the word that WE ARE NOT AND NEVER HAVE BEEN IN FAVOR OF AHMADINEJAD's Comments:
Here it to you and ALL IRANIANS:

by jean (not verified) on Tue Sep 30, 2008 07:14 PM PDTI think you are being very harsh towards these video clips. The Jews have live in Iran and contributed very much to the Iranian culture.
“mazel tov” simply means good fortune and in modern ways of using it. It simply means “congratulations”.
It is unnecessary for you to compare Mazel Tov to Molotov Cocktail.
Please do not associate the AIPAC agenda with the rest of Jewish populations.
